Small Fish & Plants For Pond In Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking for a shop in the Bangkok area (if possible in the East area: Sukhumvit, BangNa) selling small fishes and green plants for building up a pond. If anyone knows any retail shop selling pond fishes & water plants, please do let me know. I searched on Internet but could find only wholesale/export companies but no retailer within Bangkok area.

If you know by experience what sort of fishes / plants are most useful and most likely to survive within a small pond, please do let me know. One pond is in shadown area, one pond is in sunny area. So far only lots of Baby frogs inside and Lotus flowers :-)

thanks for your advice

Cheers

Stephane

PS: if anyone knows such shop in Klaeng / rayong area, also OK

There is/was a tropical fish shop on Sukhumvit Soi 23 opposite the entrance to Soi Cowboy. Not sure if it is still there?

There is a good Fish shop in Ban Phe, between Rayong and Klaeng, If I were in Bangkok I would go to Chatuchuk (? spelling) or Tonburi market they have loads of vendors with anything you could possible need.

Advise getting some 'mosquito fish' (several species come under this name according to region) - ask in a well-stocked aquarists. These are usually small species that specialize in feeding on surface larvae and help keep the mossie population down. These species can often be recognized by their upturned mouths. Unfortunately they also take out some species of larvae that also feed on mossies, so get local advice.

Hands down the best place to do such shopping is Jatujak market/Jatujak plaza, it may not be conveniently located but the selection is huge and they have the expertise.

Hi All

thanks for the replies.... :o

STEVE -> could you please give me an indication where within "BanPhe" I can find such shop. My house is nearby BangPhe but I never saw any retailer selling small pond fish species...is it nearby the Ferry area ? Or nearby the Market area ?

Thanks a lot

Stephane

I'll bet your neighbours have pots with plants and fish, just ask for a few fish.

You don't need many (so long as you get both sexes), the half dozen we got for free about 4 months ago have turned into an immeasurable shoal :o Great fun to watch.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

:o Actually all you need are a few very pregnant females. Look for the dark patch near the anal fin.

In the east you say, well go to minburi and visit chattuchak 2, small scale of original chattuchak but has everything you need from fish to plants for your pond.
