Visa Run To Cambodja

Did anyone here a visa run on his own.

Just the one for the entry stamp.

So not with an organized bus and so but just get in he car drive to the border (Cambodja)

If so what would be the advantages or disadvantages of it doing it on your own?

You can do it on your own if you want.

The advantage of some organized border runs is that they help take care of the crossing and etc.

A lot of people do it on their own by driving, taking a bus and etc.

I would have though that the main advantage would be that you do not get a white knuckle ride.

You can go at your own pace.

what about the paper work at the border?

would it take longer to do it on your own as it looks like alot of it for the Cambodjan side?

The Cambodia side is for the visa. You can get a visa online also link follows.

Just be sure you go to a border crossing that accepts them.

If it is just for a visa run, then you do not have to enter Cambodia by your car, just park it in the parking lot near the border and do the visa run by walking. I used to do that for many years, even before they had the casinos and the parking lot at Aranyapratate-Poipet border.

If you choose this border to exit then you can also have your visa either before exiting Thailand at the Cambodian visa office, just before the last checkpoint of the incoming travelers to Thailand, or at the visa office, in between the two borders after exiting Thailand.

Aranyaphratet is a busy border to cross. If you are driving why not try Had Lek, near Trat.

From Trat, follow route 318, heading for Klong Yai. It is about 100km to the border crossing and the road winds along the narrow strip of land

between the hills that form the border with Cambodia, and the sea. Along the way there are many un-spoilt beaches with white sands,

where basic accommodation is available in beach side huts.

Pass through the village of Klong Yai, and after a few more kilometres you will reach the border post at Had Lek.

If you own your car then you can drive across the border with a minimum of fuss. You will need the registration book for the car,

which must be in your name. Contact the Immigration desk on the Thai side and tell them you are taking your car,

complete a simple form and pay 50 Baht. The Thai Customs office will then stamp the paper. After completing normal

immigration formalities drive across the border and clear Cambodian Immigration. Then proceed to the Cambodian Customs post,

which is located on top of the small hill. They will issue a temporary laminated card number plate to be displayed at the front and back of the vehicle.

They will also levy a small fee of 150 Baht for a one week stay. You are limited to driving in the immediate area which is Koh Kong province of Cambodia with your car.

Went once to Poipet in the car. Had $20 notes but the buggers wanted Bt1000 and ripped one of the notes so they could avoid using it. Then they wanted Bt200 to fill in the forms. Actually that would have been a good idea as you had to wait ages in the sun to get back in if you hadn't bribed them.

If you don't have USD and have to pay Bt1000 plus transport then it is hardly worth doing it yourself. Cambodian borders are just places where criminals in uniform rip you off. I would rather spend more to fly somewhere else.
