First off I would like to assure you that this is not another "How to get rich in Thailand" thread.

Today I have been told that my position is now redundant, bugger.

I do still have a job however, but my new position offers commission only and despite being fairly confident of being OK in the future, I need to supplement my lost (salary) income somehow because things have just become rather tight for me, and it could well take a few weeks before I make a penny in commission.

So what to do? I have seen various part-time "work from home" admin opportunities, does anybody have any knowledge/experience in these? Or what about something else altogether?

I'll get by on what I have now and so I am only really looking for something temporary and just another 20k baht/month or so will do as a bit of extra 'beer money' in my pocket.

Any ideas.

seems like there is probably not much you can do while you still have to work at your old job. i was going to suggest you do extras work for films (they are filming a movie in phuket soon) but i guess you wouldn't have time for that. perhaps think about going back home to work for a bit?

Maybe he is already at home?

Lucky man.. Take the time off, enjoy yourself and slowly plan for the future.

When I said "enjoy yourself", I don't mean that in a personal physical sense only :D , but rather physical, emotional and spiritual. :o hehe..

He may be, but Girlx was suggesting to the UK where he hails from.

Sorry to hear that 'Robin' good luck for the future.

Please take a little pleasure in the realization that you are not alone in your present predicament , conserve what you have , maintain your sense of Brit humour and all should work out in the long run .

Yea, sure, that will pay the bills.

If you are from the UK and here in Thailand with your family and haven’t financially planned for these setbacks that will inevitably happen, than sorry to say, but your only option is to return to the UK or another EEC country where you may be able to find work.

My income has decreased by around 60% if not more. I still earn more than I need to live "in Thailand." But that is not going to cut it. The wife and I bought some washer machines and placed them out front of an Apt complex her mother owns. Thus far that has been earning 200 Baht a day.

Nothing to be crazy about.... but my point is, I think we will have to take our savings and find ways to make an extra baht here and there rather than just taking our money and letting it rot in the bank.

It's call "financial planning" :D

If able, everyone should have at least 1 year of expenditure saved. Noticed I said "if able"

From your response I would guess that you have none planned; therefore, you are in trouble. You better start planning dude.

Sorry op, this response was not for you.. Good luck to you and hope you land on your feet. Relax things always work out.

Cheers folks.

It looks as though there may not be much that I can do then, I'll still keep looking though.

It's not as disastrous as it may sound because my wife's income can keep our heads above water, and I should start making commission by late January/early February next year.

In the mean time I'll just have to tough it out a bit: More Thai food, no nights out and my christmas on the beach is now a no go :o .

Thankfully though Archa beer is still affordable to me. :D

Oh. I am in Bangkok by the way.

First: I hope you all the luck to get over this hard time.

Second: we all have or had our share of bad times; so don't panic or feel sad. All material losses are insignificant ;if you are still alive and able to stand on your feet again.

P.S. Weren't you the one who was willing to buy Iraqi dinars to make a huge profit on a thread you had posted before? If it is you; I hope you'd remember the words I'd posted. :o
