Convert Tourist Visa On Arrival To Non-imm B

Featured Replies

Despite my previous postings about returning to the UK to find work, I'm still here in Thailand :o A couple of possible job opportunities have come up in Bangkok, so I'm chasing these to see if I strike lucky with one. But my previous O visa extension expired yesterday and I made a visa run to the Andaman Club and returned the same day on a 30 day VOA.

If one of these companies offers me a job in Thailand, they will want me to move quickly to start this new job. So I'll need a WP and B visa. How quickly can these be obtained? I think the quickest way is to get a WP3 form from the Labour Office, fly to KL and get a 90 day non-imm B stamp, return to BKK and collect my WP, and then extend the non-imm B after 90 days in BKK (or do I have to go back to KL to get a 1 year non-imm B?)

I just want to understand the process so that I can move quickly if a job offer arises.

Thanks

Simon

Note that you are not on a Visa On Arrival, as a Brit you have a visa exempt entry. They are often confused with each other, but 2 very different visas.

Seems you have to process figured out right. Technically you can convert from a visa exempt to a non-immigrant if you have at least 9 days left on your permission to stay, in reality this would be difficult unless it is for a teaching job. It is a question of how soon your employer will be able to get all the paperwork together and present it to the labour office. As said, easy for a school more time consuming for a company.

Not sure if you need a single or multiple entry non-B.

Good luck and hope you get a nice job.

21 days.

Guess I didn't have my coffee yet.

To "convert" your visa status, don't you also need to meet the 1 year "extension of stay" requirements?

Yes you do.

I guess you'll be off to KL or Penang with the company docs and the relevant paperwork to get your single entry "B" and then be living with an extension of stay piggybacking on your WP which would only give you 7 days to leave if they cancelled your WP.

Not any more. You have to leave on the very day or go to Immigration and apply for the 7 day extension.
