Thaksin's imaginary friends?

A NEW HOME?: Downtown Bahamas

SOUGHT AFTER adviser by leaders in Africa, South America and the Caribbean? Potential recipient of honorary citizenship of many countries and a prestigious state decoration from the Bolivian government? Offers by countries to set up a "government in exile" to continue the fight for "justice"? Thaksin Shinawatra has friends around the globe.

"Leaders of many countries have invited me to become their honorary citizen, to help find ways to solve poverty in their countries. I feel proud, but deep inside I feel sad that I am able to help anyone in the world but not my own country," said Thaksin on the night of Nov 1 via a recorded message broadcast by NBT's Truth Today at a UDD rally at Rajamangala National Stadium.

Thaksin's words confirm reports by INN news service that leaders of Caribbean nations - specifically the Bahamas and Bermuda - had invited him to take up residence in their countries.

According to Matichon online, since August INN has carried 13 news pieces stating that Thaksin has been so honoured by countries in Africa, South America and the Caribbean.

But the joke, according to Matichon online, is that the governments of both the Bahamas and Bermuda say they have no knowledge of any offer of honorary citizenship, nor any offer of an advisory post or political asylum for that matter. As well, no other government mentioned in the INN reports has acknowledged what has been said and reported in Thailand.

Thaksin is becoming unwanted and untouchable in many places, it would seem.
