PAD-led protest to seize Royal Plaza area by 7pm

By The Nation

Anti-government protesters led by People's Alliance for Democracy plan to march from the Government and seize the Royal Plaza area at 7pm, a PAD leader said Sunday.

Somsak Kosaisuk said that by 7pm the Royal Plaza area near the Parliament will be occupied by the protesters. They will march to the Parliament on Monday morning to block the government's MPs from propose charter amendments which paved ways for ex-PM Thaksin Shinwatra from returning home.

He vowed that this is the last fight of the protesters who will not return home if they did not win.

Somsak also suggested the protesters to prepare clothes in case police fired tear gas to disperse them like during the protest on October 7.

Meanwhile Gen Pathompong Kesornsuk, former advisor of the Thai army told the crowds that on Monday the protesters should strictly follow recommendations of the PAD leaders.

"If we follow the orders of the leaders strictly, we will win over the government for sure," he told the cheering crowds.

Meanwhile another PAD's leader Pipob Thongchai asked the protesters to observe a minute of silence in condolence for a PAD guard, Anupong Samerpak, who was killed in the latest attack on Saturday.

Nearly any other country on earth would shoot anarchists. PAD should go to Burma, Laos, Cambodia, China or Vietnam and try those tactics. Seizing government property and blocking roads would bring a very violent response from police and soldiers if they were needed.

pretty scary- i drove by there today in a taxi and the sheer number of police and rescue personnel out there was amazing. feels like a war coming.

:D This started as a informative seires of posts....I am here in Greece trying to follow what is happening in Thailand. The last thing I want is people cutting in with their political opinions. Can I ask politely if we can have one thread of posts that simply provide news of what is occuring, and please can we keep the opinions in other threads?

I don't mind opinions, everyone is free to have theirs. I might even sympathise with them. But I would like a thread that simply has the news...as it happens...and not opinions.

In nearly any other country this government would stay in jail already since 10 years.

By the way I can't recall any European country which shoot on demonstrators (neither violent nor peaceful demonstrators) the last 10 years, so you refer to which countries?

Great idea dude!!!! Seriously...Awesome!

You should create a forum where nobody is allowed to give is opinion...Would work for sure!

It would'nt be called a forum anymore but that's alright.

Or, on the other hand, If you only want the facts with no opinions you could go there for example

It is my opinion that PAD is trying to goad the elected government into violence. In turn the army would stage another coup. That's my opinion and I'm certainly entitled to it. If this mob has it the way they want it, Thailand's citizens will have no opportunity to vote again because the elite will appoint the government. It appears that some farangs cannot see this.

Nice post Gary! Let's see .. you picked Burma (sic) ruled by a military junta, Laos China and Vietnam all communist countries, and Cambodia which is controlled by a despot! You didn't pick the USA or France or England etc etc etc and we all know why :o

Your vocabulary could use a bit of work too since the PAD are not anarchists :D

The PAD leader revealed that the PAD will launch its next move tomorrow at 6 a.m.

But the PAD leader declined to give the details of the PAD's next moves. However he hinted that there may be different groups travelling to protest at various locations. One of the destinations could be the residence of General Kattiya Sawasdipol or General Daeng.

General Kattiya has always been vocal about his threats for the PAD to vacate the Government House.

That the protesters are paid is a well known lie. Well known is also that Sondhi is almost bankrupt. now estimate 200.000 people....who can pay that?

I know in total maybe 100 people thru my staff and family and not one got any payment. And as posted before they would like to know where to get the money.

Fact a lie from the PPP. Distributed under the good old Goebbels theory: If you repeat it often enough people will believe it.

Well excuse me! PAD would appoint only 70 percent, not all so I guess there would still be elections. Nonsense? You better do some more reading.

If citizens in the UK or the USA tried to over run, seize government offices and block roads, do you think there would be no violent repercussions? Peaceful demonstration?

OK, go ahead and carry on with your crusade. I'm done.

Well believe what you want......If you think the PAD is about money......than OK let it be so......

Today it is late, but when you have some time, do some homework....google a bit about Thaksin and corruption, abuse of power, undermining the monarchy and you'll find out why the educated Thais are there and donate money (and not receive).

this is discussed 100 times....it is getting boring.

That 70 % was just an idea.

That 70 % also get elected. Like the labor union is electing one who sit for them in parliament. The rice farmer elect one of them who sit for their interests in the Parliament etc etc etc.....

just beside the Chiang Mai people elect a Chiang Mai MP, also the rice farmer elect a rice farmer MP.

You can read that in one of the "People's Alliance for Democracy Announcements".

Where do you get your wrong propaganda from? Do you sit in the middle in Isaan and listen only to the local headmans propaganda?

Gary ... there are demonstrations all the time in the USA by large groups and they are never quashed by force.

Half a million people in LA alone not too long ago. Sit-ins ... anti-war rallies .... etc ... in fact the US is still paying a price for using violence at Kent State during the Vietnam war.

You can't cry for democracy and then use force to deal with opposition Gary :o

Let's meet at 6am Monday before marching to Parliament : Sonthi

By The Nation

Anti-government protesters were asked to meet at 6am on Monday before marching to the Parliament to block the government's bid to amend the constitution.

People's Alliance for Democracy's co-leader Sonthi Limthongkul said the protesters would be divided into many groups, the strategy that was used before.

"I would like to invite people to join the last battle. We know what we are doing and we believe that what we are doing and will do has same objective which are to protect the country, religion and monarchy," Sonthi told the cheering crowds.

He revealed the strategy that all protesters would meet at 6pm before marching to the Parliament. Theywould be separated into several groups and marched separately to the Parliament. He also urged the protesters inside the Government House and outside to take a rest so that they were ready for the last battle on Monday.

Earlier another PAD's co-leader Suriyasai Katasila said the march will start at about 7am Monday.
