What Do I Do Now

Featured Replies

passports different names, thai passport my last name, usa passport my wife's ex-husbands last name, she wants to go back to stay with her sick mom so i am only getting a one-way ticket, but what do i do now for her to get a ticket, change one of the passports, she wants to leave in 2 weeks i did not even think about it until someone mentioned it..did not even think about it, anyone have any ideas.

No problem, your wife has 2 passports. The name of the ticket must correspont with one of them. Since she goes to Thailand on a return ticket she needs to show only the Thai passport at check-in. That way the airline knows she doesn't need a visa. So buy on the Thai passport name.

When she returnes to the US buy a ticket on either passport. IN BKK she will need to show the US passport to confirm she doesn't need a visa for the US.

Don't worry, immigration and airlines both deal with dual nationality and 2 passports daily. They will understand, including the different names. She could take a marriage certificate with her, to show the marriage and your last name. Let her enter and leave Thailand at immigration with the Thai passport.

Exactly.

Although I do understand the concerns of having multiple passports with multiple names. It 'feels' shady, but I think most of that comes from watching/absorbing too much Hollywood movie material.

Yeah, I know if 'feels' shady, but there is nothing wrong with it. Been many forum topics on it, and it is generally understood that you can have two passports, and dual Thai/US citizenship. There is a spelling discrepancy between how my last name is spelled in Thai, and how it is in my U.S. passport, but it has never caused me a problem. I use the Thai passport going in and out of Thailand, and the U.S. passport going into the U.S.
