The Land Of Some Foolish People

Sometime falang are so presumptuous when talking about other countries business, a way remember me the white rajas in the colonial India complaining about the incompetence of their indian boys serving afternoon tea.

Sometime WE forget we are guests in this country, also if we manage or we are owner of business, also if we are married with a thai..

Yes, free to debate about the local politic, PAD PPP, etc, but without that kind of superiority shines trough many of the posts I read everyday on TVisa.

Last, but not least, be a little bit more modest on our opinions and judgements.

(I must be concise because my english is not my first language)

Title made more sensible and less Thai-bashing.

I don't care where u are, the govt has an obligation to its people, and it obvious that the Thai govt has sat on its hands through this one. You want to call it complaining, I call it a statement of fact, or simple observations.

Western superiority is THE plague of this world. I fully agree.

Soon you will be calling it Chinese superiority, woopty do? The fact is there is a right way and a wrong way to go about things. Allowing some thugs to take over a major economic hub and destroying a nations economy is wrong...

But hey, mabe next they will poison the water supply, thus killing off your loved ones.... mabe then you wont care so much about western superiority issues.

You just proofed the point. Westerners know the right way to do things. This is not the west, that is what you forgot to take along.

And where does water poisoning get mentioned? Don't be like CNN, at the end of the day an atomic device has been smuggled in, or even worse. I don't need "nonexistent facts" to form an opinion.

It is another western thing, some are very good at it, always making things worse, and therefor justifying worse means to solve things. Just relax and don't get yourself all worked up.

To speak as we see is a fundemental human right. If many posts come across with a superior tone then it is most likely because they are written with a superior and more developed sense of truth.

Thailand has become the laughing stock of the world - it is quite reasonable to look down on such moronic and idiotic conduct.

Hard to be PC in a country which has absoulutely no concept of PC - my fawning friend!

A more developed sense of truth?? Coming from the west?? Wooow, short memories here.

I am sorry, but I have to take the start of the most recent wars into this, now what was truthful about that?? I don't mean to bash, but just stating a plain fact.

The west is not any better than in handling the " truth" or " bending the lies even further if we seem fit" as a really deep down low world country ran by a bunch of weirdo`s.

Any argument about western superiority can be handled in the same way as the above ones.

We are not really all that good, even if we tell ourselves that we must be..... Be realistic, just because everybody in a part of the world agrees doesn't mean it is the truth, or that we are better.

Not just the west but also other Southeast Asian countries are laughing at how Thailand has handled this, The President of the Philippines called Thailand politically immature. Thailand blew this big time and the entire world knows it, my Thai friend stuck in San Jose and unable to come home to visit her family over the holidays says the same. In recent years they have had no real national emergency and could go about posturing and acting like they were on their way to development. The rug has been pulled out and the unpolished reality is now here for all to see, either you accept Thailand for it's warts and live here anyway or you can't accept them and move on, but the warts are there. By the way when the USA screws up such as we did in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina they deserve all the criticism they get, now it's Thailand's turn. Has nothing to do with ethnocentrism.

I will let you in on a little secret, the laws of physics apply everywhere in the world, including Thailand.

You remember India in the days of the British rule? Is this a personal memory or one you carried on from your previous life as a राजा (rājā also rajah)? Yes there were tremendous social injustices during the colonial days but we've learnt our lesson and, hopefully, we have moved on if you self righteous types will let us. Or would you prefer it if we white skins (rajas) wore horse hair shirts for the rest of eternity to atone for the sins of our great grandfathers?

Sometime WE forget we are guests in this country, also if we manage or we are owner of business, also if we are married with a thai..

Paying guests, let us not forget that. On your basis we would check in to a hotel and allow ourselves to be screwed around and robbed and then quietly pay up and leave as we were only guests after all.

If a person enters a country LEGALLY, stays within that country LEGALLY, sets up a business LEGALLY, maybe hires local staff LEGALLY and pays taxes LEGALLY do you not think that the person in question deserves a degree of recompense should the system he has supported fail him?

Yes, free to debate about the local politic, PAD PPP, etc, but without that kind of superiority shines trough many of the posts I read everyday on TVisa.

Sorry I don't quite get yor point here but I'll cut you some slack as you are not a native English speaker. However, as I said above, if you pay into a system you should be entitled to recompense if the system fails you.

If any posts exhibit any sense of superiority it is probably because the notion of a bunch of rag-tag protesters taking over the national airport unopposed is reserved for anarchic African states.

Last, but not least, be a little bit more modest on our opinions and judgements.

Modesty? If you had invested a serious chunk of your life and funds into a concern and then watched it flushed down the pan by the actions or inactions of a bunch of incompetant idiots would you treat them with modesty?

(I must be concise because my english is not my first language)

Okay, you've made a pretty good effort at putting across your views I hope I've not misunderstood you a thus been too harsh.

I know where you are coming from but current events are a way beyond the pale even for a country aspiring to the annotation "developing". You also have to cut people who are losing out in the current situation a litle slack as emotions are running a little high. It's okay for those of us with no current commitment to the country to criticise but it is different when you have family, business and property to consider.

<edit : ps what the hel_l has this got to do with NATO?>

Not relaxed enough yet.....

Even 'guests' are entitled to their opinions. If you don't have the stomach to criticise injustice when you see it, don't criticise those who do.

Quite so, moreover guests are allowed to leave :o

Reflections:

Well aren't we all missing the point (and in the Thai case avoidng it), Thailand isn't a 'young' third world country, it's a fast developing country which once again has brought democracy in to contempt, and once again refuses to grow up and take it's responsible place in the world.

To the OP: We are guests here. That is what you say. Is that the rule for every Farang in Thailand? Even if somebody lives here for decades? Even if a Farang was born here? Where to draw the line?

I think, that someone, who lives in a country for a long time and has everything in that country is not a guest anymore.

I have edited the opening post because NATO did not appear to be relevant, and the idiots the original poster seems to refer to are farang, not Thais.

I guess you're job is pretty tough at the moment, but I've noticed your posts are quite flaming in themselves today.

The title of my post was related to two posts (both closed now) one ironically asking NATO intervention on Airports problems and the other still called the land of i... from somebody wanting to change the LOS name in LOI.

How about a "developed sense of ethics" This place has problems. The average Thai cannot trust their own family not to mention the next door neighbor, and I have seen the crime rate increase significantly in the last year. What will happen in the next five. I have had two motorcycles stolen in the last couple months. In the US, it is not a common thing, and I have had enough of that and all the other sh…t. Time to go home.
