Thai Bugs : )

ive been lucky over the last few years in taking some pics of big bugs ive seen in chaing mai but the size of the thing i saw moving down the gutter in loy kroh road last night was huge ( by english standards )

i was sat in cherry bar when something moving across the road ( at least 30 feet away ) caught my eye .

now this bug is moving very quickly towards a drain so i was getting the camera out as i was crossing the road to get a pic in case it went down the drain ( and it did ) but before it dissapeared i got one shot with a ciggarete end in the pic ( thats the flat brown thing near the back )

this thing was at least 7 inches long and two inches wide so if your having a lot of falling down water over the next few days DONT do it in loy kroh road.

coz if this thing finds you in the gutter ?

it could carry you down the drain never to be seen again : )

enjoy pics ..... happy xmas .... dave2

Got bit by one by stepping on it many years ago. Hurt like nothing I can describe and my leg was numb for 2 days afterwards!

I'll bet, the poison is painful enough but the big risk is if an infection sets in - apparently they don't brush their teeth (dozens of legs and no hands).

I used to have a pet Scolopendra subspinipes, never got bit. It would eat pinkies and not even a bone would be left...

Some species can kill children and animals under 40lbs (18kg)

They are very fast to react, so if you are going to kill one, use a shovel or poision or SOMETHING with long range that will keep distance between your body and it.

These little fellows are popular out in the villages where they are put in a bottle of Lao Kaow and left for a few weeks. The resulting beverage has mystical powers far beyond those of Viagra, Cialis and similar modern medications.

Another Thai urban myth providing an excuse for inbibing copious amounts of Lao Khaw.

It also does not make the ao Khaw taste any better. :o

Scolopendra, scorpion with some Thai herbs + Lao Kaow = "Ya Dong" (Thai viagra) :D
