Thailand had 26 companies licensed to operate data centres by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) as of 27 July 2026, with their declared electricity demand exceeding 1,059MW.

The figures underline the rapid scale of data-centre investment in Thailand, particularly around Bangkok, its surrounding provinces and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). Dozens more projects are reportedly awaiting licences.

Three companies hold most capacity

Vistas Technology has declared the largest planned electricity use at 260MW. Zenith Data Center and Stratus Technology follow at 200MW each, meaning the three companies account for more than 660MW, or about 62% of the licensed market's declared capacity.

Manager Online said Vistas and Stratus have links to China's ZDATA Technologies group, which recently received Board of Investment approval for a project worth nearly 24 billion baht in Rayong.

Singapore-backed operators also have a substantial presence. STT GDC (Thailand) has declared 47MW and a Bangkok campus designed for AI workloads and liquid cooling, while the two Bridge Data Centres entities total more than 110MW. Bridge's new 200MW Chon Buri project is under construction and has secured long-term industrial-water purchasing arrangements.

Licensed operators and declared power use

The 26 licence holders are: True Internet Data Center, 22MW; JasTel Network, 21MW; Internet Thailand, 10MW; Data Zone, 20MW; AIMS Data Centre (Thailand), 1MW; STT GDC (Thailand), 47MW; Bridge Data Centres (Thailand), 32MW; JP Asia Global, no customers yet; Telehouse (Thailand), 4.3MW; TSA Data Center 01, 25.6MW; Etix Bangkok 2, 25MW; OneAsia Data Center (BKK1), 20MW; STP Planet DC, 1.8MW; Etix Bangkok 1, 5MW; Seazor Data Center and Cloud Services, 10MW; Bridge Data Centers IOI (Thailand), 80MW; Zenith Data Center and Cloud Services, 200MW; Evolution DC (Thailand), 12MW; Stratus Technology, 200MW; GSA Data Center 02, 38.1MW; Karia Data Center and Cloud Services, 19.2MW; Vistas Technology, 260MW; United Information Highway, 1MW; Interlink Telecom, 1.2MW; Bilcom Systems, whose licence is nearing expiry; and STT GDC BKK 3 (Thailand), 2MW.

Thai-linked participants include True, Internet Thailand and GSA Data Center 02, a Gulf-Singtel-AIS joint venture.

New projects put on hold pending standards

On 4 September 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who chairs the data-centre board, held its first meeting and ordered a temporary pause on 166 new projects. Four subcommittees were established and given one month to produce common standards.

The NBTC is also preparing to move data-centre licences from Type 1 to the more demanding Type 3 category. Proposed requirements include zoning, checks on electricity and water contracts before approval, separate utility systems, mandatory e-waste management and clean energy, and local-content requirements of at least 50%.

Authorities are also examining security concerns surrounding complex ownership structures involving Singapore, Hong Kong and China, as well as risks that centres could be used by call-centre gangs. Inspections have covered diesel reserves in Rama 9 and Ramkhamhaeng, where some sites reportedly held more than 200,000 litres, and possible water competition with nearby communities.

I always wonder how a data centre benefits the prolateriat?

Nobody seems to have an answer?

Allegedly the noise levels coming from them are astounding for nearby residents.

DC's come in all price ranges depending on bandwidth, server space, amount of memory and quality of the hardware.

The last 3 years prices have gone through the roof, especially because of the memory prices.

That's a good example of cherry-picking, now have a look at the other factors I mentioned, and keep in mind this is a free forum, so they can't raise prices.

Quality memory chips alone have increased fivefold in price in the last 18 months.
