These places are basically a mechanism to export national wealth out of the UK. I would turn them over to BUPA and the Nuffield Trust. The Nuffield Trust is a not-for-profit while BUPA is a company limited by guarantee with no shareholders, so all profits are reinvested directly into the business to improve healthcare services and benefit future customers rather than being paid out as shareholder dividends. My mother is "lucky" in that she has full continuing healthcare funding for a nursing home, at about £2500 a week. But you wonder where the money goes. I ask her what she had for lunch, and she would say it was a bowl of soup. That soup would be ASDA packet soup.
