Does Anybody Know The Name Of This Plant?

Featured Replies

I recently bought two of these, but the vendor had no idea of the name except in Thai (why should she?). The Thai name was "something yippun", i.e. it's supposedly Japanese:

Thanks for the suggestion, after googling "hibiscus" I feel that you may be right. They can obviously look in many more different ways than I knew. BTW, the flowers are really huge, 15-20 cm (6"-8") across.

If anybody knows more about these beautiful things (care etc) , please tell me.

Maybe it is a Rose Mallow Hibiscus.

That was my thought too, the leaves look quite large.

We have one of these at the side of the house and it's huge the good lady say,s it's called chabaa, at least that's what it sounds like. Nice big shrub as a background.

Chaa-baa is the generic Thai word for hibiscus. ชบา

I bought one at the market about a year ago in red. It's a sort of giant hibiscus alright. According to the lady who sold it, it originated from Philippines. But unfortunately the plant died due to some moth infection. Still searching for another to replace it.

It looks like some sort of Hibiscus
