Bkk to pattaya take the bus from Mochit or Ekkammai about 90 bht or taxi

Pattaya to Samui - fly from utophao (spelling :o ) near pattaya to Samui for a couple of thousand baht.

It is obviously possible to travel to Samui by bus via Bangkok very cheaply, however I am advised that the journey is a nightmare 12hrs + with a then 2 hour ferry crossing, for true back packers only.

Bkk to Samui by overnight train.

Buy a combination ticket, Train (second class sleeper)/bus/ferry. 650baht.

Train takes you to Surat Thani, bus awaits to take you to ferry.

Train takes aound 11 hours, 3/4 hours bus to ferry. 2 hours ferry to K/Samui.

With respect to sea tramp I wonder why Thais seem to avoid the train in favour of the bus, considering the train option sounds pretty ideal. My GF says train takes much longer than bus ( unbelievably I must admit).

Maybe because the bus is cheaper!

Yes the trains do take longer, however it is still noticable on trains that Thai's make up at least 95%+ of the passengers.

What are the other travel option from Don Muang to Pattaya? Cheers

Taxi straight from the touts +/- 1800 bath maybe 1500 if you really want to haggle.

City taxi striaght to pattaya (haggle a lot +/- 1200 bath)

City taxi to ekamai busstation (+/-150B) then bus pattaya 90B

Bus from Donmuang to ekamai then other to pattaya (cheapest but a pain in my opinion) be prepared no signs in english , difficult if it's your first time.

Walking :D cheapest it's only 180 km's :o
