Mahasarakham Falang Meet-up

OK, I've taken the water buffalo by the horns and after talking with a number of "locals" our long awaited meet-up is starting to come together. The location will be N&N 2 restaurant in Mahasarakham. Most everyone that lives in the area knows where this place is. N&N is a Korean style BBQ that's cheap, lots of room, and most importantly, beer :o Now what may be the hardest part, when to have it?

My thoughts are is their anyone NOT living in Thailand but coming to the area soon and would like to meet the locals? Post here with your travel plans and we will do our best to fit you in. This idea goes back a number of years ago when I came to Thailand and wanted to meet many of the posters in Udon Thani. They pushed back the meeting one week to fit me in so I would like to return the favor to someone.

That being said what sounds like a good day to the "locals"?

Pull on the horns a little harder and select a date otherwise it will likely go on forever........Since Wokka is going to be here after the 27th of Feb and I can only make Saturdays until the end of Feb (After that I will be up there on a much more permananent basis) how about 28th Feb or 7th March ??? I guess Saturdays would be the best of those of us who still have to work..... No problem with the location but some directions would help as I don't know the place.

I was hoping to hear from a non-resident to place a date. At this point the day will be either be Feb. 28 or Mar. 7 so Wokka "your in the pattern, call to ball" what day do you want? I'm good for both weeks as it will be pay week :o

OK then the day is set.

Feb. 28 6:00 PM at N&N 2

Direction will follow shortly. I should be going into town this Saturday so I'll make notes of landmarks to navigate by.

No problem with above.......Just one other thing, is this boys only or wives g/f's as well. I don't mind either way but let us know so we can organise accordingly.

Regards

Just like the Udon meet ups that I have been to involve the whole family. N&N is a big place and plenty of room for all. What will most likely happen is the men will sit at one table, the ladies at another and the kids will play the arcade games they have there. Everybody will be most welcomed!

I'm off to Mahasarakham today with note book in hand. I will post directions later today.

OK gang here are the directions from Borabu.

Take route 23 into Mahsarakham and at the traffic light just before the clock tower turn right.

At the next large intersection you will see a 7-11 in front of you, jog left a little and continue on straight.

Go about 1 km. and N&N 2 restaurant will be on your right side. If you see Smart Brain English school on your right you have went to far.

If you have any questions you can PM me and we will exchange phone numbers. Also anyone living in Mahasarakham want to volunteer as a rescue team to help lose members find their way to the party?

I would love to come to your meeting with my gf. Have lived in Na Chuak, 60km from Maha Sarakham for nearly 3 years, have never met up like this before, will look forward to it. Would be willing to pick up a few people on my route in to Maha Sarakham, such as Borabu.

Not sure but shouldn't you turn LEFT at the lights before the clock tower ????

:D OOPS, your right irrigator, it is a left :o Someone take away my navigator license .

Good news is looks like it's going to be a nice crowd and hopfully the beginning of a new tradition. This kind of thing has been going on in Udon for a few years new now and is quite helpful to both long and shot term residents along with people coming in on holiday wanting to hear what it's like to stay here in person.

I don't want to highjack your post but this is a great idea. We meet every Monday in Ubon for lunch ( 12-16 expats plus wives g/f's) and find it refreshing. Everyone enjoys the time together and we rotate our meeting places as people make suggestions. The Hotel Lytong has a lunch buffee and can accomodate us most of the time. Enjoy your time together.

Still off topic :o but.............................

Maybe the Ubon Monday lunch bunch are interested in connecting with the Ubon Hash House Harriers who will have their first evening "run" on Monday 23/2 with start time at 20.00?

Hello Jansep

You have to go to the bus Terminal Mo Chit , Make a call 043-711072 they can tell you where and what time.

anyhow the bus goes ( I believe) only at night, you will arrive at 9 Am in Town

To find the place N&N2 go to google earth and Type FLY to Maha Sarakham city you will find a place mark.

( not make a mistake there is a other restaurant N&N) :o

Greetings

Putu

Probably somebody who does it more than I do will provide the detail, but basically you can go to the Northern Mor Chit bus station and take one of the many air conditioned buses that go to Sarakham. There are also other private companies that leave from other locations, including I think some luxury mini bus services. It takes 7 to 8 hours.

Many of us prefer to fly with Thai Airlines via Khon Kaen. There is a current promotion but the price is still a lot higher than the bus and there is the problem of the transfer to Sarakham. There is no railway station.

If you come by bus, you will probably arrive at the Mahasarakham bus station or perhaps a nearby street where some air conditioned buses park. There will be numerous tuk tuks to take you to a hotel or you can walk to the closest ones. The bus station is near the canal that runs through the city centre. If you head towards the Serm Thai department store from the bus station and continue another 300-400 metres along the canal you will come to Taksila, the nicest hotel. Close by are two cheaper hotels run by the same management. Alternatively you could walk the other way along the canal past the hospital and after 500 metres or so will come to the Vasu, which is probably the number two hotel. If you want a cheaper but still very acceptable a/c room you could take a tuk tuk to Suan Warun, the hotel at the Rajabhat University.

I think this is walkable to N&N2.

I will be leaving Thailand on 22nd Feb so I won't be able to make it but I hope you all have a great time. Maybe you could take some pictures and post them.

I was lucky enough to meet irrigator whilst here and found talking to someone who lives here very helpful.

I hope to be coming back when I can and maybe I can meet some others then.

Anyway all the best.

I meant Suan Warun. At a push this might apply to Vasu but not bus station/Taksila. It seemed to me though that anybody arriving in Sarakham would need to arrange somewhere to stay before going on a drinking session.

I think the Suan Warun is still closed for renovations. I drove by today but forgot to look.
