Thai Embassy In Tokyo... Anybody Use It?

Featured Replies

It's worked out that I'll be in Tokyo during the time I need to get a new tourist visa, ideally of course a double-entry. According to the Thai Embassy website for Japan, everything seems rather standard: show up at specified times, pay fee, pick up next day, etc.

One thing: it says that you need to bring "Airline ticket (fully paid) with flight no., date of entry/exit and name, and that "open ticket not acceptable." Later in the description it says " In the absence of a required document, a letter indicating the unavailability of such document must be provided."

So, just wondering... anyone apply here? If so, any leeway on the airline ticket part? Doesn't make sense to me... if I'm applying for a double-entry, when would the exit date need to be--before end of first 90 days or the second 90 days? If I don't have it, what if I provide letter as described above saying I don't?

I'm thinking maybe I could book a flight then cancel within 24 hours if need be... but obviously would rather not. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Nobody? Really?

Not very many people on this forum have gotten a visa in Tokyo. It is not a common location that people go to on visa runs.

The best thing to do is contact the embassy and see what they actually require. What they show on websites is not always what is needed.

In December 2008, while I studied in Japan I was able to obtain a single entry tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in Tokyo. I was required to provide:

1. copy of student ID card

2. copy of air ticket into and out of Thailand

3. 4500 yen

I asked if it was possible to obtain a double entry visa, however the woman at the counter told me that I would need to show air tickets into and out of Thailand for that. A double entry visa seems possible if you can provide those air tickets.

The Thai Embassy in Tokyo did not seem very friendly from what I saw. I saw other people turned away for lack of documentation.

Best of luck, I hope it works out.

Interesting... thanks for the head's up. I may have to figure something else out.
