There is still time to reassess the threat by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) to "invade" pro-Thaksin strongholds of the country, and that is exactly what cooler heads should insist. PAD founder Sondhi Limthongkul wants to lead his yellow-shirted followers into the northern strongholds of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) in mid-April and May. Mr Sondhi is not known for his political posturing or empty threats. So authorities and more reasonable groups and people should start to move now to head off such ill-considered and unnecessarily divisive action.

The government in particular has the first duty to disapprove of this potentially dangerous idea.

Their rhetoric is more than disturbing.

Expressions such as "subhuman" to describe their opponents were used. The speeches reeked of extreme nationalism, every other sentence contained calls of loyalty to Nation, Religion and Monarchy. I would also look at the manager website, and/or the articles of Bangkok Pundit, especially dealing with the vicious attacks against foreign media.

It is clear that this is not just tolerated by the present government, but also supported. The Foreign Minister is PAD, several advisers to the different ministries have close ties to PAD, and more than a few MP's are PAD members.

"Invade" the north during Songkran (mid April), when everybody and his brother are pished out of their minds?

Oh that'll work!
