There has been a lot talked about the fact that there is no need anymore to do a 90 day visa run if you have a non o visa. There seems to be a thought that you now can report to your immigration office instead.

I was at Phuket immigration today and asked about this. Both Thai officials and Tourist Police said it was rubbish, you still have to do visa runs.

After arriving in Thailand with a non-O visa you can get an annual extension of stay if you meet the requirements for one of the many types of extensions listed in Police Order 777/2551. Once you have this extension, you don’t have to do border runs any more. In other words, it’s not the visa alone but the annual extension that makes it possible.
