Microsoft must know the right time to release Windows 7

Back in 2006, Microsoft released its last installment of Windows till date, Windows Vista to the market (Although it was released on January 2007 for broader audience and retail market). I don’t think that release was scheduled on a timely manner, it’s still a slapped in something to me. It’s like they did not have something for many days and so they released a stand in version to quench peoples thirst for a short amount of time. Vista is still a hotchpotch to me, making things worse in most of the cases. But it introduced some revolutionary changes to Windows and these changes are nothing those can be ignored. Now it was up to Microsoft to put together these new technologies into a more sophisticated and streamlined approach that can actually run on consumer PCs. That resulted with Windows 7, by far the best from their stable.

It takes a really wise decision to bring out one’s assets to public in a befitting manner. They should be in right place just in right time. MS has a wonderful product in its pocket this time, they must have to decide when the time is right. Although they are still publicly walking on a 3 year schedule after Vista, it’s evident that 2009 is the year. Now the question remains that when and how. As it’s speculated, MS is releasing the RC of Windows 7 in this April, most probably on 10th, they will have plenty of time on Q3 to announce the RTM. But then, one must not forget about the market and competition that includes Apple’s Snow Leopard. Another speculation which is related to Snow Leopard assumes that Apple is going to release it on June 8 prompt. Now that’s end of Q2 only, a month before Q3. I think MS should let them go this time first instead of rushing to finish Windows 7 before schedule. It will only worsen matters for Apple. They already announced that Snow Leo is not something new on table, just a bunch of bugfixes and introduction of latest hardware technologies in core of Mac OS X. On the other hand, sheer volume of Windows 7 public beta downloads already indicated that MS successfully fuelled that hype. Release a good product after Snow Leo and let Apple be sandwiched. Apple’s not going to stand a good chance if they don’t introduce something revolutionary and interesting than it did with Leopard.

On the other hand, Windows 7 has shown great potential to replace others as a mainstream netbook OS. May be Apple is also showing interests in that field, Microsoft clearly has an edge over them. Global recession hit increased netbook sales and Windows 7 will surely have a large and potent field to sow upon. Again, just as I said before, MS needs Windows 7 to be on right place in right time.
