Hi there

Can anyone please recommend a decent quality (3 star ish) hotel, preferably within walking distamce of city centre, but not right in the middle.

Absolutely need a swimming pool!!

Price up to 1000 baht per night, but less would be even better of course.

Thanks in advance

Hi Looby,

I can think of two in your price range with pools.

1) Montri Hotel-Right at Thapae Gate. Great location for walking street.

2) Mercure (formerly Novotel) Not as convenient on location but not bad either. Google them and have a look.

Cheers,

Sam

if you go to the "accommodations" part and they show 3 different types of rooms. Click on the room type. Their most expensive is about 11oo baht, but very, very worth it. And their pool is kept clean by saline, so no eyeball burn!

I adore the Chiang Mai Thai house. Rooms are gorgeous, as is their pool. And their staff is by turns delightful, sarcastic and hilarious. http://www.chiangmaithaihouse.com/

Looks quite nice.

BUT why are they so shy with their rates "don't see them quoted anywhere" :o

Go to "Accommodation"

Click on room type and you get details of each room type including rates

Montri Hotel is good value. If you decide to stay there make sure you get a room at the back of the hotel otherwise the road noise will drive you crazy, well it did me !

The OP asks for quality 3* for 1000 baht.

2* Downtown Inn on the night market has a swimming pool and comes close to what the OP asks.

3* The Park Hotel on Changklan road.

3* + The Empress Hotel.

Al 3 are owned and operated by professionals from the same group.

Google and you will find rates close to what you want.

Montri is nice but no 3* and no swimming pool.

Top North has even no * and service......??????

Check out the Chiang Mai Thai house and you will find what people think about the owner and the staff.

Some people still don't get it that it needs more than just a nice building to run a good hotel or guest house.
