I am having a bit of difficulty with a sentence in Lexitron. The subject word is:

ทนโท่ [ADV] obviously; clearly; apparently; glaringly; distinctly; vividly; blatantly Syn. จะแจ้ง, โทนโท่ Def. ปรากฏชัดแก่ตา.

and the sample sentence is:

ตำรวจยังไม่จับทั้งๆ ที่เขาทำผิดให้เห็นอยู่ทนโท่

I can think of two alternative renderings:

a. The police did not arrest [him] even though it appears that he is clearly the culprit.

b. The police did not arrest [him] even though he committed the crime openly and blatantly.

Or, some other alternative.

It's plain to see that the police did not arrest him every that time he did something wrong.

I think that "ทุกๆ ที่" is different from "ทั้งๆ ที่" and "ทุกๆ ที".

ทั้งๆ ที่ [CONJ] in spite of; although; despite; though; even though; even if

ทุกที่ [ADV] everywhere; every place; here and there; all over; all around; at all points; in all places; wherever

ทุกที [ADV] always; regularly; every time

David, either of your renderings captures the general meaning, but the second is how I would literally interpret it.

Also, you're right about ทั้งๆ ที่; it's a conjunction in this context.

I don't think I've ever seen ทนโท่ before. Thanks for the new vocab.

A little more detail about the final clause:

เขาทำผิดให้เห็นอยู่ทนโท่

ให้ links ทำผิด with เห็นอยู่ทนโท่, so I think it's his wrongdoing that is obvious.

So to piece it all together, I might render it as:

ตำรวจยังไม่จับ ทั้งๆ ที่ เขาทำผิดให้เห็นอยู่ทนโท่

"The police have not yet arrested him, even though he obviously broke the law/committed a crime"

There are lots of shades of possibility here, depending on the specific context. If, for example it's a specific known crime, then the indefinite article "a" might become "the".

Thank you, Khun Rikker, for that analysis. Since the one sentence Lexitron sample sentences are always out of context, one can never know the precise meaning. I think that your rendering is a great compromise between the two alternatives suggested.

In fact, in the set of articles I have been retaining for the past four years, I can find only this one sentence which uses the term.
