Swedish readers vote Thai beaches best

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: -- Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet's subscribers have voted Thailand as the best beach destination outside Europe for 2009, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Stockholm office.

In the newspaper's sixth annual survey, 31.3 per cent of 30,093 subscribers voted for Thailand.

Runners-up were Brazil, Malaysia, the Dominican Republic, Florida and the Canary Islands.

They also voted Bangkok the sixth most attractive city to visit, after New York, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco and Miami.

"Bow Wow, Come To The Beach"

Which, given the large contingent of Swedes residing in the Bang Saen area, tells me that these Swedish ex-pats are not Aftonbladet subscribers.

Well I guess when compared to any sunny and warm "beaches" in Sweden, the competition's not too hard :o

But I really do wonder what these Swedes are thinking...the beaches in Thailand are all right but nothing spectacular in my opinion...especially for the tropics. I can only conclude the these people don't get out and about much. Their King sure loves to visit, however. Seems like he is here every other month or so...does he have a Thai gik or something? :D

It would be interesting to know just who and how they did the survey. If they surveyed Thai visitors, then some of them may likely not have been to the other destinations, however, all would have been to Thailand.

Not trying to knock the outcome, just curious about the methodology used.

Bangkok attractive???

Crock of feces.

The survey has no validity.

No doubt there are some good beaches here but the comparison to several destinations not known for swedish tourists is misleading. It's all about distance and accessability. Very difficult to fly to Brazil, Dominican, and even Florida vs. Thailand. Also alot more expensive.

Are you sure this isn't a mistranslation. Maybe the article read 'bitches' not beaches.

Right...........they didnt go to Bangsaen....and Chonburi is same dirty beaches...but nice to live here anyway....can take a bath in some swimming pool..

Yeah, just ask Hannah Backlund

Young Swedish woman butchered in a " rape" attempt March 15, 2008 on Mai Khao beach, north Phuket.

The survey got this outcome because a majority of the 30.000 Swedes in question haven't been to another country in Asia.

A notice is that there was an article about the 'swede Island' Koh Lanta in a morning paper some day ago.
