March 31, 200917 yr Friend's interesting problem; glad it is not mine! Had TurboTax (TT) basic CD; installed on computer. Ran OK Needed Calif; bought on line for $39.95 (apparently a full package, Federal and State from the cost); download automatically. Completed returns. Learned E-filing not included. Paid $14.95 for that; download automatically. In process of transmitting Federal return via TT web site, power failed; hard failure, no UPS. Power came back, rebooted, TT would not run; stated another instance of program already running. How could that be? Task manager showed nothing running. All the following attempted while signed in as administrator (i.e., only has one account; no formal admin account set up). Start panel showed 2 programs. Deleted one; didn't help. Control panel, add/remove programs showed only one TT program. deleted it. Re-tried loading TT from CD; same problem. Searched for all TT files on all drives, hidden included; deleted all (except for the data files from before power failure). Tried to reload from CD. Stated TT already exists and aborted installation. Tried control panel, add/remove programs again, selecting REPAIR TT; didn't work. Tried running CD in SELECTIVE STARTUP MODE; CD says TT 2008 still exists. Googled TT problems and found 2 suggestions. Tried #1: run setup.exe /u /l; install from CD; didn't work. Tried #2: run setup.exe /f; install from CD; didn't work (i.e., didn't work in each case in that the CD starts and then the error msg comes up: 1605 Unable to flush wrapper.msi. TT says if you get this error msg, go to Add/Remove programs and delete TT. If that doesn't work go to #13 & #14 above. Re-opened emails on buying full new package to get state return: no trace for downloading on line. Turbo Tax on line help NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME; live telephone support not available. Ran registry cleaner; no help. Rebooted many times during this process; no help. Search entire system: no TT files exist except data files from pre-power failure. Still can not load from CD. Have data files but no program; what to do???? Edited March 31, 200917 yr by noise
