April 2, 200917 yr Hi, I have to do my first visa run this month, I'm planning on going to Loas by coach or Train (probably coach). I live in Bangkok and would like to know the process. - So all I have to do is get on the bus, show my passport to the immigration office in Laos? And then hop back on the bus and come back? - I know its a long trip, so would you recommend to stay a night or 2 then come back? - Also how much will it cost?. - Is there anything worth seeing there? - Whats the night life like?

What do you mean by a Visa Run? Are you going to apply for a Visa? Are you hopping over the border and coming back again? Whatever, you need a Visa to enter Laos. Around 1,500 Baht for the Visa.
April 2, 200917 yr It is a bit more involved than that. What are you intending to obtain? A tourist visa requires a trip to the Consulate in Vientiane and an overnight stay (or longer if holiday). For a 15 day visa exempt entry you still have to buy a visa for Laos, enter the country and then return for the 15 day stamp.
April 2, 200917 yr Author I have a 1 year visa in Thailand, my 90 days here is almost up, So I will have to do a border run which I am planning on going to Laos. Do I just hop on a bus, pay some cash and receive a stamp? Then come back for another 90 days?
April 2, 200917 yr You have to exit Thai immigration - cross bridge - obtain Lao Visa and enter/exit Laos and then return. many people do like a day or two in Vientiane with the Beer Lao and hotel rooms seem to be available so you might do that. Or you could spend a night on the Thai side in Nong Khai.
April 2, 200917 yr Author So all I will need is my passport with my Thai visa in it. Just before the bus crosses the border we have to get the Laos Visa, then enter. On the way back we get another stamp just before we cross the border into Thailand. Is this correct?
April 2, 200917 yr I expect you get off the bus at a bus station - then proceed to border crossing and stamp out of Thailand/give them departure card - then get transport to other side of the bridge and obtain visa/enter Laos (expect you will need a photo or two) and USD gets a better rate than baht. Then if you want to return you stamp out of Laos - cross the bridge/fill out an immigration arrival card and obtain a new 90 day stamp - then proceed where you want.
April 3, 200917 yr All that way and not see Vientiane?!! Cheap Beer Lao, Indian grub, lovely Mekhong sunsets, pollution free (well, almost), pate, French Baguettes, cheese, no traffic jams....... Give it a few nights!! PS I just noticed, I'm tallking to a banned member. Edited April 3, 200917 yr by jamesjdaly
