When the recipient silences the call on their telephone as they receive the call would that cause a slight pause on the music I hear on my telephone?

No, you have no way of know if the phone is on mute, Best just let the music play for about 20 to 30 seconds, no answer hang-up hopefully your party will return you call asap.
