With a Thai registered car and a Thai drivers license, is it possible to drive from Trat, cross into Cambodia and drive to Koh Kong? If not, does anyone know of a guest house in Trat where I could store my car for a couple of weeks?

Thanks for any info.l

didn't work for us exactly one year ago- thai immigration simply said no. we didn't even ask the khmer. you'll get ripped off on the price of the visa if you just walk across and try to buy one at the window- the old lady in their will demand double the price of what you'll get for one at the phnom penh airport, and if you argue with her she'll just go back to her desk. no transport to koh kong after like 15:00 or something ... really depressing border it is.

Thanks - I crossed perviously having taken the van from Trat. Although the Khmers were very impolite (most unusual - spent 6 months in Cambodia and always found Khmers to be friendly and polite) I don't recall paying more than at the airport.

hi we tried it not possible, thailand and cambodia have no aggrements in place for vehicles to cross borders, we have a passport for our willys jeep, and have been to Laos from thailand many times, they have aggrements in place, of topic i know but when driving acroos the border in to Laos buy insurance straight away, at the lao side, no one tells you this, 5 klms away from the border in laos the boys in light brown have a check point stopping all thai reg cars, and guess what ? no insurance big money to pay for there cups of tea!!!!!!!

Anyone is welcome to contact me if they need a place to store a car in Trat (long term & short term are ok). I have a lock up (very secure) cage like car port at my house wich i dont use due to the fact i only have 2 motorbikes.

I drove a Cambodian registered vehicle into Thailand (a motorbike) and as the Thai documents indicated I would have to return the vehicle to Cambodia in 30 days, one might presume it's possible to drive from Thailand into Cambodia. Mind you, the Cambodians may have a different attitude about Thai registered vehicles. (I never did go back on that bike)
