Hijacking the thread a little, Timekeeper I am intrested in Lasik, I am 48, my sight problem is a reading one, my arms are just not long enough anymore to keep things in focus, I use reading glasses but seen that BPH have what seems a good deal on at the moment just under 40K for 2 eyes.

Any info you can let me have on why you did it ( same problem ?) and experience would be welcomed.

I had the Lasik done exactly 1 Year ago here in Pattaya at the BPH.

(hang on I will get my magnify glass)

My eyesight is perfect and clear at long distance, I can just about see the computor screen and need the magnify glass for small print. My eyes become tired very easily these days, and also become extremely dry. (I have to use artificial Tears)

On my last check up 2 days ago, the specialist said, for them to be 100% perfect, I need replacement lenses which is 200.000 baht.

I dont think that Lasik is good for people who cannot read small print close up, and there is still no way I can see my telephone.

To be honest the Lasik was not for me.

Thank you, if that is the case then it is not for me, my long distance is perfect its is just reading, phone and computer that I would like to fix, even with 5 pairs of glasses I can never find a pair when I need one.

As some of you may know, I am far from a fan of Bangkok Pattaya.

But their eye clinic is excellent - all the latest technology and some very good doctors.

It will cost you though :)

myfriendyou, there are many BPH haters on this forum

theres no need to pander to them by telling a story with a happy ending for them to tear to pieces and for me to get uptight about

if you want more info PM me and ask away

You can go along to the BPH Hospital and have the Lasik Eye Test to see if you really are a candidate for the Lasik. The test takes about 2 Hours, and at the end, you will be given a pair of Glasses to try on,, the effect you see through the glasses is how your eyes will be afterwards (if you have the Lasik) This test was 300 Baht last year. Hope this helps.

There is a Lasik clinic and an eye clinic in Bangkok Pattaya. They are close to each other (I went in the wrong one by mistake once) but are run entirely separately.

The eye clinic is state of the art.

Well the Doctor who did my Lasik was called Dr Somchai (one of the best eye specialists in Thailand) and this same Doctor was the one who offered me new lense implants when I am ready.

Last week, when I went for my last check up, the Lasik clinic was closed down, and it had moved nextdoor, maybe buisness is flat, i dont know. There was not as many staff either.

I don't know much about Lasik, although I have built accommodation for the equipment.

But I have had lens-replacement surgery for cataracts at Pattaya Eye Centre - North of Carrefour - about 150m and then turn left into an open square. The guy there was quite good - I have had no problems. 40K per eye for everything.

If you need more than the cosmetic Lasik (which is true of most people) try this guy.

I had cataract surgery in both eyes in the Eye Clinic at BPH back in 2005 - absolutely no problems since, I'm glad to say. I went back there yesterday for my annual eye check up - all perfect. The cataract operations somehow also fixed the elevated eye pressure that had plagued me most of my life beforehand. It's always a healthy 16 or 17 nowadays, compared with 27 or more before the surgery. :)

I also visited the orthopaedic surgery for my routine annual visit to get my arthritis checked out. They took a blood sample and the uric acid level was quite low (4.2), so the surgeon has reduced the amount of Allopurinol I take. :D

All in all, in just one hour I saw two consultants and had the blood sample taken and analysed, all at times that I specified, and the cost was 1220 Baht. As usual, I was suitably impressed with the service at BPH. I would recommend the Eye Clinic and Orthopaedics to anyone. :D:D:D
