Still not sorted, went to Dealer could not get booked in, Made appointment for this afternoon, will report back

The Technician said that he reset the ECU, So my attempt at resetting by disconnecting did no good :D Working fine now :D Steady 160/170/+ and all good :D Only for Testing purposes though :)

If everything works fine now, I suspect your autobox oilcooler was full of dirt (or covered by a plastic bag) overheating auto. have a look. If you do much 150+ driving you may want a larger cooler or just one more same size. I did that on my fortuner 2005, one more original same size fitted at Toyota at 2-3.000 baht. If you chips your engine to 205hp/440Nm you must increase auto cooling. This engine comes with an improved 5 speed auto in Euro, but not here yet.

hi,

could you give more info about chipping the engine? i.e. cost/risks/wheretodoit/can do on diesel as well?

thanks

This 3,0d4d engine comes from Toyota with 2 different outputs. 163hp/343 Nm, and 205hp/440 Nm. The latter not avilable in LOS.

Only ECU are different. Rather than getting the high power ECU which only works with the 5 speed auto (shiftpoint 3.600 rpm), you can install a aftermarket ECU which works with the thai 4 speed auto (shift point 4.100 rpm). I did at 35.000 baht incl half hour installation, all done in engine compartment on factory installation bracket behind the battery. 0-100kmh in 10 seconds with auto, even when loaded heavy. The auto box cant shift any quicker. Manual is down to 8,5 sec. No increase in fuel. If any problems, disconects in 10 seconds and everything back to factory original. No problem for 4 years. Done it on Vigo too, but this is only 3 years old now.

If interested I ll try to find the link. German platform, but made in LOS

You can also go cheaper with easier installation at race-chip.com

Also a cooler intercooler helps. Waterspray (like a windshieldwasher) or a fan at low speed. Doesnt increase power at high speed though

Have fun

sorry i didnt read this post earlier,

first of the fortuner does have a 160km speed limit by parameters set by the ecu.

though depending on the verison of the ecu, some seem not as vonurable as others, but never the less,

we have top speed unlock item available,

this will basicly tell the ecu you are driving at 160 max, but in real life you will be going over.

but because the ecu doesnt read the signal output of 160+ then it wont cut.

if you want this option, you can PM me for more info, price etc.

((haha i dont want to get into the topic of 160 is going to fast, cause i drive about 180-205 on the highway.)))haha enjoy.

Speed limit 100 mph/160 kmh on all US suv and trucks, yes. But in LOS? Never seen or driven. Could it be the 2,7 gas? Top speed 3,0d4d 180-200 pending on fuel (Euro 4 shell v-power is faster), tyres, rideheight, roofrail removed blabla.

Was lucky to hook up with a policeconvoy of Fortuners from Surat to Pretchuap ones. 150-180 all the way, even through the red lights. They smiled a lot when we fuelled same time in Chumporn area. :) Ting tong farang

Disconnecting battery can lead to problems with the entertainment system.

Driving a Fortuner at 160 is travelling way over it's limits. Even 110 is probably to fast. Try not to kill anyone....including yourself!

Mine cruises fine at 180 and even at 200, feels stable and the engine isn't straining.

I do tend to keep the speed down to about 120-140 though for safety reasons, but occasionally if you aren't paying attention you look down and notice you're doing over 180 without really noticing, which is testament to the car.

Have to say, I'm very impressed with the power of the 3 liter diesel engine on such a heavy car.

Anyone else noticed that the longer the car is running the perkier the engine gets? It can be a bit tractorish when starting, but feels like a petrol engine after some time on the highway

Fortuner engine runs at 3000 rpm in 160 kmh. Thats very relaxed. Edit Max torque is 1400-3200 rpm. Max hp is 3.400 rpm. so 3000 rpm is perfect and only 70% of max hp. Runs smother the more hours you cruise 160

Driving in town and stopping engine every time you park without idling/cooling down turbo is what kills dieselengines.

It amuses me the idiots that treat others lives with absolutely no regard. They are rediculous speeds to travel on these roads. If you want to die, take a rope, tie it to a bridge, the other end to your neck and jump....SIMPLE. Please don't kill other innocent people by driving your WEAPONS down the highways at these sorts of speed.

If you kill somebody I love YOU WILL have alot more to worry about than the Police, Courts & Jails of Thailand. :)

Cruise control would have been a nice standard feature on the fortuner.

I try to stay under 110 kph. More times than not I look down to see it has easily crept up near 140. The driving height gives a false impression you’re going slow. The car’s a dream to drive and the engine effortlessly purrs along with plenty in reserve.

Cruise control is standard since facelift late 2008. And larger more efficient barkes.

neverdie,

your opinions are yours.

and frankly my testiment is never having a crash with my truck,

itis modified in all the right ways to handle speeds with control.

beside that, its nieve to say having a crash at 140 wouldnt kill someone to.

its all about the driver, and the situation,

it wouldnt matter if you are driving 80 or 180.

at the same time i dont encourage people to speed,

because alot of people dont know how to controll a car safely at speeds.

(to prove this point, lets take this as an example.

a learner driver who has learnt less than day, he is driving 90-100km/hr,

let me ask how safe would you feel being a passenger in that car.

VS

a profeissonal rally driver (ie. collin RIP) would you feel not safe, being a passenger

if he was going 200 or even 280 on a stright?? i think not. perhaps in a rally course who wouldnt, haha.

then again, its plain stupid to speed in traffic or in tight situations.
