Help! Please! Can't Sent Emails Using Windows Live

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have been using Windows live for some time on 3 different computers.

I have two main email accounts - Hotmail and gmail, both of which work fine on Windows live, using Gmail as the main account.

Suddenly this afternoon Windows Live stopped sending my emails. (both Hotmail and gmail)) They receive messages OK but each time I try to send I get the following message:

The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'aaa'

Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E

Protocol: SMTP

Port: 25

Secure(SSL): Yes

Socket Error: 10060

I have identical Windows Live on my other computers and they can send emails, no problems, and all the settings are exactly the same - I have checked carefully.

The computer with the faulty Windows Live will send emails from their the respective email accounts, but not from Windows Live.

I have been working on this problem for about 7 hours and cannot solve it.

I have removed and reinstalled Windows Live 3 times.

I have disabled, then removed the anti virus software.

I have Googled and found some Microsoft forums where other users have had an identical problem with an identical error message. But there are no suggestions there that seem to work.

help! Please! It's driving me crazy!!! :)

port 25 is often a problem with many isp's blocking it or mesing it up.  pop3 accounts directly to gmail don't use it.  I don't know if windows live uses that port.  I would bet its a isp problem.

or if your going to gmail's   Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'  I am using port 587 not 25

Hmm.. Probably due to my young age in the forum, I can't seem to post a link.

Anyways, another website with good pictorials on how to set your Gmail up on WLM can be found by typing "Setup Gmail in Windows Live Mail" in Google.

Read the first link that comes up. :)

I changed the gmail settings on Windows Live from port from 25 to 265 and everything is working again

Thanks everyone for the help. :)

The only thing I did yesterday was to change my internet configuration from a single port Maxnet ADSL to a multi port/wireless D Link router. But the other two machines still work with the port setting on 25. Very confusing!

But anyway it's working again, and double thanks :D
