You can a Thai tourist visa at the consulate in Vientiane. They are easy to get. They do not ask for tickets or anything else. Just your passport and a copy of your passport photo page plus application and 2 photos.

You can get either a single or 2 entry visa. They will be free until June 4th.

For the visa to enter Laos.

You can get a visa on arrival at the airports and at many border crossings. The average cost is 1400 baht and varies according to which country you are from.

You can also get a visa at the Lao embassy in Bangkok. If you pay an additional fee of 200 baht you can get it in an hour or less.
