I like non standard cropping a lot, but I don't think it makes this image stronger, I took out some of the top area. I think it helps to emphasis the old guy, you are free to disagree. I also found the image was flared a bit. One click on auto levels in Photoshop often cuts out the haze. I have done so here. This image is very much the kind of image I like to take.
