Logic Board Problems With Macintosh Ibook G4 In Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Hi~

My business partner and I have two Macintosh IBook G4's.... one in Bkk and one in California... my partner is Thai and lives in Nonthaburi...

This week we had the Bkk IBook go down... He has taken it to the Mac store in Pantip as well as to a smaller Mac shop in Pantip where there is a "mac guru" who has been helping him out...

Here is what I can make of what is going on ... I'm sure some of it has been "lost in translation" as well as lost in my "lack of understanding much about computers"

here's all the info I could gather~ I wrote all this down as Pock was talking last night....

on the electronic board ....onboard card graphic go wrong..

the "guru" says he could...".make it hot like in the oven" hot but not burn for 4000 baht ($117.00 U.S) ...if it not work then "tiger" would be gone....

1070.00 check computer.... mac shop....

(this is how much the main "mac shop" charges to tell us exactely what is wrong... but we already have a good idea from the "thai mac guru"

Mac guru says we need to change board...

the Mac store does not fix computers....

import board from Singapore

16,500 baht...$485.00

cannot run external hard drive

the computer has not been backed up yet~

So there you have it... .that's all the info I have....

Pock could ship this computer back to me next week along with a product shipment... to be repaired here in the California... and then sent back to Bkk.

I was reading an interesting article today about "quick fixes" for these logic board problems and was wondering if there is anyone familiar with repairing them there... or "shimming" them as suggested in this below forum discussion...

any help from the techies at Thai Visa would be much appreciated....

This forum has helped to solve many concerns and issues I've had over the years in many different areas! Let's see if it can help this time!

I'm not looking for a list of Apple dealers ....we already have all that.... I'm looking for someone who understands this problem and potentially works on macs or can give me advice as to whether it's best to just get it back to the states!

Thank you!!

It sounds like you are spending more money on repairs than a used ibook G4 would cost.

Have you considered writing it off and have someone recover the data from the hard drive for you?
