Language Exchange Group Formed

Featured Replies

Recently through the meetup and facebook groups we have formed a Thai/Eng Language exchange group. So far we have a beginner and intermediate class. If you would like to join the mailing list for meeting dates, times etc. please PM me with your email. We meet 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month as a rule, evening, around 6.30pm. All are welcome

Cheers

Oz

Just a quick reminder that the group will meet again tomorrow the 14th of July.

Place: Starbucks Coffee @ Central World 3F

Time: 6.30pm on...

The group will divide into beginner and intermediate levels as we did last time. I will also be teaching a beginner or intermediate English Class as the need arises, so please bring along as many people as you can.

As discussed in out last meeting we are also welcoming suggestions for a new and improved venue.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Regards

For those of you who are confused a bit at the moment about the existence or otherwise of this meet up group, please allow me to explain.

The previous Organiser was Tor, but for as long as I have been here in BKK, Tor has (to my knowledge) never done anything with the group. There were a few keen members of the group who decided to keep the group going and collected their own list of interested members from this meet up group ? ie, the ones who actually attended meetings.... These people, including myself on most occasions, have been meeting on Thursday nights (1st and 3rd) (used to be Tuesday nights but changed about a month ago) at 7pm at Central World Food Court ? top floor behind the Supermarket. We usually get about 6 to 10 people of both beginner and intermediate level, so we split into two groups. There is no set curriculum as such ? what we do is pretty much up to those who are there on the night ? it?s an EXCHANGE ? not formal lessons ok?

The meet up website group formally became leaderless not long ago, when Tor pulled out. My brother Mark had sort of been looking after it with some other members, but can no longer do it. He asked if I would take it on, and I agreed, but when I went to ?sign up? in meetup.com I discovered it was going to cost me money to become leader of a voluntary meet up group. Doesn?t seem to make a lot of sense to me. I don?t need a database of names to market to and push into my own business ventures ? I just want to learn Thai.... and so far, I have found it really useful. I didn?t hit that button to become organiser, but Teah did a few days later. So she is now leader, and has sent everyone a mail advising them of her new position, credentials and intention to appoint underlings to do the work for her. To my knowledge, she hasn?t yet advised anyone of any meetings.

Regardless of Teah?s intentions with this group, and not to undermine or challenge Teah?s position, if anyone is interested, a group of people ? usually about 8 or so (mix of Farang and Thai) meet at Central World Food Court at 7pm for a couple of hours on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays in each month. Our next meeting was actually going to be tonight, but I think, given the confusion at the moment, we will re-convene on Thursday 5 November at 7pm. If you are interested and you can attend, please do.

The venue is a little tricky to find, but we have found it best so far ? we basically out-grew Starbucks.... You have to walk into the supermarket and it is at the back of that supermarket. We have a sign on our table TELX. For those of you who get lost, my number is 0886 203 025.

I will send an email out closer to the 5th reminding people of the meeting. Till then, I hope this clears up the current situation for those who are a bit confused.
