Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on using Open Office Calc as a subsitute for MS Excel.

I want to do spreadsheets.

Thanks!

Yes. Certainly it is an excellent alternative to MS Excel. Open Office complete package is the best out there that is very closely equivalent to MS Office.

If you can use, you know, those illegal CDs of MS Office... then stick to MS. But, if you have to pay for your software... just ditch MS. There are close alternatives to that just like Open Office.

MS Software is the best out there... but if you have to pay for it... just forget it.

OOO 3.1 - its still free.

Excellent.

As stated above the Open Office Suite is an excellent and free alternative to the M$ range of products, but beware if you are intending to use data that was created in Excel which makes extensive use of Macros, then you may have some conversion problems. Calc does have its own Macros and programming language but the syntax differs from that of Excel

You can also use IBM's Lotus Symphony, an office productivity suite of programs. Also free.
