TRANSGENDERED pupils at a Thailand secondary school have been given their own toilets.

A recent school survey at the Kampang School in northeastern Thailand revealed that 10 per cent of the 2500-strong student body was transgendered or gay.

"When they used the male toilets they would be teased so they would go to the female toilets with their friends," said the school's director.

Some students want the school to improve the new toilets' decoration, suggesting a "nice pink colour."

Transgendered people are far more visible in Thailand than in Western society, and are referred to as ladyboys or kathoey.
