Nepalese caught smuggling heroin

A Nepalese man was arrested Monday for trying to smuggle a kilogram of heroin to Bangkok from Chiang Rai. Following a tip-off in Mae Chan district, a police checkpoint on Mae Chan-Khew Phrao-Tha Khaopleuk road stopped a suspicious looking pickup truck, and arrested the passenger, 22-year-old Dijai Kumar, and the Thai driver, 44-year-old Chatree Sribanprod. Kumar's sandals were found filled with bars of heroin.

Investigators discovered that Kumar had picked up the heroin bars in front of the Mae Chan supermarket and modified a pair of new sandals to accommodate them. He then had Chatree drive him to Chiang Rai Airport for a flight to Bangkok.

He clearly was used as a decoy : given the plane ticket while the cops were being tipped out.

22 years, poor guy. What will Thai jails make out of him ? :D

Dear Chatree Sribanprod. I know that this isn't your real name, without knowing you. You did a good job, but can't you smell that smell? The smell is around you......How could anybody have 1 kilo of heroin in his, or her sandals?

The Thai driver made some good cash, nobody really knows how many kilos were actually in that 'suspicious' car? ( Haasip, haasip?). And how do you see if a car is 'suspicious'? I've seen 'big foot' cars, but never such big foot sandals......one kilo...let me guess: The cops have some white looking powder, the real heroin is already on the streets. And I'm pretty sure that all of us could walk through all customs with one kilo in our sandals? What a stupid story. Huu, huu, that smell, can't you smell that smell, that smell is around you. Some call you Prince Charming, but the time's over now, it's time to go to Hilton, to know what life's all about...some old rice will feed you ..stick a needle in your arm. Some guys might like you..to set you up again and again....but you should never forget...that heroin goes into veins. Hu hu that smell, can't you smell that smell??????????

is any arrest made by undercover or investigating or just tip offs

Generally by tip off's

The deal is that a major dealer is allowed to stay in business on the provision that they periodically provide the police with a tip off. Normally this will involve foreigners, as the dealers are a bit cautious about Thai and Burmese buyers incase they have mafia or gang connections.

At the end of the day, the dealer is happy, as he not only has the sale money, but also permission to continue to operate.

The police are happy, as they look good, plus the government gives the arresting officers money for each gram of heroin seized.

The government is happy, because they can show that they are serious about drugs.

The only person not happy is the buyer. But he never stood a chance..

The real victim is the tax payer who is footing the bill for these fatuous wars on drugs and their non existent results. The only effect on any drug trade are the ones who aren't organized and in it from the start, the poorer ones who are the mules, who come from socioecconomic backgrounds lower than you with your internet and laptop at home can imagine, and some are just plain stupid. But so were you once, I am sure of it.

Its a stupid system which generates no revenue, creates nothing positive and tangible and is more of a show 50 years later than it was at the start. "THIS IS YOUR BRAIN. THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON DOPE!" (Personally I believe my brain does not look like an egg being fried even on drugs.)
