I love playing games. Mostly first person shooters and driving games. The problem is I can't stop playing them once I've started. I mean, maybe I should be doing a bit of work.... hey, a quick round of whatever... 4, 5, 6 hours later, I'm still at it. When I was a bachelor, it was quite ok, but now it's a little different.

Not being able to control my playing is bad enough.... but when I start dreaming.... all night, then enough is enough. When I would play Quake 3 online a lot.. I'd have dreams of running around in the different worlds all night... I did manage to finish Far Cry and Doom 3... Lately, being in the mood to play a driving game, I've been playing Midnight Club II.. definitely arcadish, but a fun and addictive game. Started having the dreams again last night. Nipped it in the bud this morning. Deleted the game off my hard drive and gave the game along with Grand Theft Auto Vice City to my brother in law. I guess I'm on the game "wagon" for a while... try and get myself clean.

Went and did something useful (and expensive!) today and went to the big IT Mall in Rangsit and bought a bunch of wireless stuff to get a network set up here at the house :o

You game players out there... Do you have the same problem? Does playing games steal away a bunch of time where you could be/should be doing something more useful? Do you ever get "the dreams"?

:D

I won't play games, for the reasons you have outlined. Don't have any on my machine, and won't let anyone else put any on. (except solitaire and minesweeper - whoopee). They chew up and waste even more time than this forum.

i used to have pinball dreams when i was young. i really liked pinball, but there is only like one or two companies who still make machines. of course, video pinball isn't the same.

After a 24 hour session of doom i found my self doing the old quick look round the corner on the high street, checking for shamblers. gave myself a repetitive strain injury playing to much last week too

While i was waiting to get my new PC i did have withdrawl. Now i got the new pc then no more. Currently playing HL2. Very addictive. The gf doesnt mind too much as she gets to watch the shitty Thai TV.(my opinion. not hers) . I wonder what i'm gonna do when i finish it. though that wont be for a while.

Once I buy a game I am compelled to play it until finished. Then, having satisfied my addiction, I can resume normal life. (Luckily I don't buy games that often, just when the new 'state of the art' first person shooters).

The only game I haven't finished is Doom III. The story line (or lack thereof) actually managed to bore me (after the first 500 fireball throwing demons, they got a bit dull). Half-life 2 rocks.

Same here (Which is why I'm not purchasing HL2 for a while)... I was only about 2/3rds through MCII though.. and the last part was supposed to be really hard (different set of "skills" over FPS). Last night though, I actually rolled over really fast (because of something in the dream) and I came in contact with my wife's face :o .. I'm embarassed to admit that.. but hey, she didn't wake up, although she laughed at me when I told her this morning.. Anyway, can't be spazzing out in my sleep anymore. :D , so off the hard drive went the game.

Ah well.... lots of work and projects to do... Once I get to the point where I can hole up in my room and do nothing but play and finish a game, I'll get HL2.

I'm really waiting on Duke Nukem Forever (If you have ever heard of or played Duke Nukem 3D, you might understand why)... Hopefully it will be as much fun and as funny as the previous version.

I usually don't find fps's addicting, but I do like playing them online. I really didn't care much for Halo or Doom. However, Half-life 2 just sucked me in. I really like the way it's built to allow you to use your brains rather than your bullets to safely get out of sticky situations. For example, the three antlion bosses can be easily beaten without losing even a single % of health. The really cool graphics and storyline also help a lot. Too bad that to really enjoy everything fully you need a killer system.

Games that I found really addicting were: Master of Orion (1, 2), Civilization (2,3), and The Sims (1, haven't played 2). Those were the games that had you playing on and on, until you don't realize that your wife's gone and remarried and your kids already have grandkids.

Don't play Sims 2, if you ever want to see the sunlight again. Making your own sims then making them reproduce and seeing the parents features in the little ones... ahhh

Note to self: sort out graphics card ASAP

I used to play games quite a lot .... (Simcity 4, Sims 2, NFS 2). But that was before I got True Hi Speed.

The only thing I have now with games is the range from RealArcade. They are so simple and boring that I quit them within 20 minutes. A real time saver.

So now I have more time to chat with overaged women on ICQ :o

People who are easily addicted should be careful... it can lead to gambling for money... which is a 'one-way-street' to disaster.

If anybody is really worried there is a site (Removed by Moderator) that may help you.

I used to be totally addicted to Space Invaders etc (shows how long ago that was.) I was also a compulsive gambler when youg. I won't even put a game on my computer, because I know it will take my life over for quite some time....

erm....we play them for free on our computers rav...come on put down the placard...get down off that soapbox...we all know you were a compulsive gambler, mind you choosing to work in a casino just seems plain daft to me, kind of like putting an arsonist in charge of a fireworks factory

I guess thats a link to you new "forum" I fully expect you to work the words "gambling" and "addiction" into every post from now on...joy of joys

I still play but not as much as a couple of years ago. Playing online on a hi-speed connection was fun. I'm on dial-up here so...

I buy a new game every second week at the local shop. It's been single player mode for 9 months now :o.

I realised I was addicted when I reached 100,000 online frags with the same clan for Quake 2.

My favs , Quake 1-2-3, HL1-2. the Medal of Honor series, FPS mostly.

Just got Doom3, looks interesting but it s a slideshow even though I ve got a 1.2gig cpu, 1 gig ram and 128meg vid card. Motherboard's too old already for the hardware.

I'm addicted to online Pga golf. Been playing for 6 years now, probably one of the best on the planet...lol. From a league of 2000 I'm always in the top 3.

Games don't really come to life until you take them online.

This morning, before work, I played against 3 other golfers, Me in UK , one in Canada, one in Japan and the 4th in South Africe.

Hammered 'em

hmmm online PGA golf, that might be a game I could play online over my IPSTAR system. I suck at it in real life, couldn't do any worse in the virtual world.

Maybe after I get these projects done, I'll get the game, practice a bit and then catch you online sometime:) 100 baht a hole? :D
