What Is The Best Moped To Get?

Honda Click-i.

Cheap, reliable, etc. The Honda CZ-i is pretty good too. The Yamaha Nuovo is pretty popular with a lot of the posters here, but doesn't have Honda's name attached to it (might be an issue with your Thai g/f). It's more powerful than the last two listed (although more powerful is relative in this case) and costs more.

I have a Honda CZi and really like it but I'll bet the OP's gf would LOVE a Yamaha Fine :)

Don't get a fino, they are the biggest pile of rubbish I have ever driven, I have a honda click and it is 100 times better than the fino.

I had driven my wifes fino for a few times now and found it great....can't see where it is rubbish. It handles nice and gives good speed is comfortable and looks nice too ( for the girls...) ...The brakes are strong and acceleration is good too( for a scooter). The storage capacity can eb increased with an stylish basket and adding a windshield makes it feel more comfortable too...if you ad a few more lights it looks even "more"...

I have also driven the Honda click , new model...can't say that it is better at anything...i find the drive on the fino simply more comfortable and a safer feeling. But as male driver if i had to buy i would rather go for the Ymaha Nouvo or alike. Yamaha brings great quality bikes and honda are easily stolen( thai's love Toyota/Isuzu Cars and Honda Bikes- its about brands nothing else)...

here another choice it is a Tiger Cx135 cc http://www.tigermotor.co.th/index.php?opti...e&Itemid=64

Nobody will steal it and you got a good bike for a good price ...they also provide excellent service ...but maybe the girl won't fancy it :-(

Nouvo Elegances go for 51,500baht,i bought mine new and didn't have to barter. That probably doesn't help if your spending 40K,you may struggle to buy a new twist and go for 40K or under.

Just ask the girlfriend what she wants. then buy it. That way if any problems its her fault not yours.

I nearly made a super cock up when i was thinking of getting my girl a bike, I thought auto but luckily i asked her and amazingly she said she did not like them as 'no control'. she wanted a wave style bike. Go figure.... in the end i decided to get her sod all, after seeing her ride the families wave.......... nut job rider or what! :):D :D

I have heard from many people that the mio/fino bikes are useless on wet roads. The little tires apparently slip out very easily. I just hate the sound of the auto screaming away needlessly at all times anyways. I have road a 125 wave with a friend on a fino and they used a little more than 30% more fuel than I did too.

BTW: "moped" is short for "motor & pedal". None of these bike have pedals so they are not mopeds. Generally speaking, the autos are scooters because your can "step-through" them and you sit with the motor under you butt. The bikes with gears are actually motorcycles since the motor is between your feet. The reason they don't look like a typical motorcycle is because the gas tank is under your butt instead of in front of you. A motorcycle does have more control than a scooter.

I have to tell you that this is nonsense...the fino is fine on wet roads...but i suspect some "specialists" modify their Fino's and add extra slim tires( it seems the fashion here)...and if you slip on a fino with those slim tires than you will also slip on any other bike with those...

On my Wifes Fino there are the original set of tires and the grip is as good as any bike ...even on wet roads...the good sideeffect on a fino...you don't get as damned wet when driving in the rain...specially the feets.

But agreed i feel having better control on a Motorcycle than on a scooter...but at rain it is simply best not to drive - make a short break while its pouring down...

I don't know much about the new models except they all seem to have small wheels. Does anyone make a small bike with decent size safer wheels?

They all are quite ok with the original size of tires, but it seems fashion here to modify these tires into slimmer types ...thats where the problem with the grip starts...

I know 3 people that have Mios that are scared to drive them in the rain because they say that are so dangerous. Two of these people are Thais who have been riding motorcycles their whole life. The other is a farang that has been riding motorcycles for years too and they all mentioned it to me out of the blue. I am not making it up and for this many people to mention it to me makes me think it comes from somewhere. None of them have aftermarket tires, all stock machines.

I am not saying you make it up and i meant to talk about the Fino , not the Mio as i haven't ridden it yet...but i told you what i experienced on the Fino of my Wife when driving at a wet/rainy road....hearing from others is one thing - trying it yourself is the way to go...so grab one Fino ( or Mio)yourself for a ride when it's rainy and than take a click-i and do the same...than YOU know...no need to approve/disapprove on something that you haven't evaluated yourself.

From what I understand the Mio and Fino are the same bike with a different body so there shouldn't be any difference in the way they handle. After hearing the same feedback from several people that I know well, I can assume it must come from somewhere. Its not just something I heard once or even twice. If something looks like piss, smells like piss, I do not need to taste it to evaluate it myself. I have heard that they slide out easily on wet roads, particularily when cornering. Besides, I stated clearly that this is what i "heard" from several people. Of course you will get mixed feedback about anything. I am just providing the feedback that I got about them which is exactly what the OP asked for.

I've done nearly 9000 km on a Fino which I had wider, alloy wheels put on. It's never slid away from under me in the rain, did once going through a patch of oil at about 100 km/h but didn't fall over. In fact I once was following a friend of mine on a cbr 150 and watched him slide off on his useless IRC tyres right infront of me and had to swerve to avoid him.

It might be for sale actually if anyone's interested. I'm buying a cbr (but changing the tyres:) )

My GF replaced her one year old Wave with Mio 4 years ago. We where both impressed with the improvement in traction, espesially on wet road, over the Wave. Mio and Fino is technically the same.

Mio sold a year later and replaced with Nouvo MX, even better.

Bit of a late reply i know, new 135cc nouvo elegance cost me 51500baht in Chiang mai,no mags, with mags it was 2000baht more, bit of a mistake on my part as to get mag wheels and new tyres will set me back 8000baht now,you live and learn.

I'll tag on and say that i have fallen for the fino. I rented both the Honda Icon and the Fino for a period of time. The Icon felt pretty nifty and lightweight, but looks wise (as girly as that sounds) the fino wins. It also feels sturdier (although i did like the lighter weight aspect of the Icon). Fino just looks so much cooler though!

What a bunch of bullshit to say. We bought a Fino earlier this year and its a very good running/handling little bike. I once did 110 on it and it was stable enoufh. The Fino looks much better than a Click just ask any Thai lady.

But again as discussed on earlier topics regarding this matter, different people different bikes.

If you have 2-3 models you like, RENT each for one week and then make up your mind, that's the best way to choose.
