Rooo
Update: Bangkok Hospital is not able to cope with the influx of injured passengers so to lighten the load there, all blood donations – B or otherwise – have to be done at Nathon hospital. There’s just not enough doctors and nurses and medical staff to help facilitate donating blood at Bangkok Hospital. I appreciate that Nathon is quite far away but your help would be greatly appreciated.
george
Blood urgently needed for Samui air crash victims PHUKET / SAMUI: -- Bangkok Airways is calling for blood donations of all blood types, especially from foreigners, following the crash at Samui Airport this afternoon of Bangkok Airways flight PG 266 from Krabi to Samui. The pilot was killed and a total of 34 people were seriously injured in the accident. Samui Airport has been closed following the accident. All flights to Samui are now currently being diverted to Surat Thani Airport, where alternative over-land transport is available for passengers heading to the island. Most of the injured are foreigners. Many of them urgently require B-Type blood. People wishing to donate blood in Samui can go to Samui Bangkok Hospital. Those in Phuket who wish to donate blood can do so at Vachira Phuket Hospital, which is located on Yaowarat Road (Tel: 076-361234. Comehome
Hi! All hotels and shops should put up signs both in Thai and English that Bloodype B negative is urgently needed at Bangkok Hospital after the planecrash. Perhaps that would give the hospital enough blood for those injured in the planecrash. So if you stay in a condominion building, hotel or if you have your own shop, ask the reception/or make yourselves, signs for everyone to see. Perhaps it will save someones life! Take care! /comehome

Comehome
Oh my, i totally missed that! You are so right Beacher, why would they write a thing like that??? I dont regularly donate blood but perhaps someone can explain a little to me. What are the criterias for donating blood except for not having hepatit B or C and HIV of course? Back in Europe the hospitals said i was too light and needed to gain some extra kilos before i could come and donate blood. Are there any rules for smoking or drinking alcohol within the last few hours before donating or something like that? I seriously wonder. I am sorry if i ask questions that are already answered in the blood donating section. I looked but did not find any info. Thought it would be good to know. Take care! /comehome

Is there something about Thai blood that makes it inferior?I'm not trying to be cute here. I'm genuinely curious about this. Some blood types are very rare among Thai. Rhesus - seems to be more frequent among northern Europeans. Here's some racial and ethnic differences in blood types. http://www.bloodbook.com/world-abo.html#Tartars Here's some number with Rhesus + and - Thailand is not on the list but look at Hong Kong and Korea. Sorry for not being politically correct. Edited August 6, 2009 by PoorSucker

samui34samui
"Dear Valued Customer, In the name of Dr. Jakapan Bhongsatiern, Managing Director & Hospital Director of Bangkok Hospital Samui, we would like to thank you all for coming to our hospital on the day of the crash to donate your blood type B. Unfortunately the information was sent out wrongly and made things worse for all of us due to we have no patient who has blood type B. And we has been prepared all blood components enough to use in all patients. This information which was sent out wrongly has caused trouble to all of us such as for you all who has to come eventhough with your great help and want to help but instead you had to waste your precious time to come to the hospital. For patients who needed attention but instead our staff had to come and welcome you all. And for us, we has been wrongly discredited by this message. This kind of wrong message sent out can be troublesome and creat turmoil and misunderstanding so next time person who would like to help community and spread the message please recheck and obtain the correct information directly from the hospital. We would to thank you all again and apologise for all the trouble which we, Bangkok Hospital Samui, did not creat and even worse we are also a victim in this incident. We hope that you all please reconsider and set your mind right about us about our hospital and we hope that in the future if crisis occurs everyone of us will hold on together as one. Rooo
Samui34samui, I am posting this in the open forum, since you didn't have the decency to run that supposed letter by us first. On what authority or capacity do you receive communiques from Bkk hospital to print on Thai Visa forum? Maybe these communications would have been better addressed to the media & local groups that started the ball rolling upon their request & not to make out that we here on Thai visa started the blood donation issue. If they wish to contact us by all means.

Boo
I have to wonder why, in light of the massive amount of people on samui & elsewhere who rallied to donate blood, that a simple, "Thank you to everyone who came to donate blood, your assistance was greatly appreciated but further donations are no longer needed" instead of this email, which sounds petty, ungrateful & accusatory to the wonderful people who went there to donate in this time of crisis!!!! I wont be using that hospital ever again that's for sure.

Well , I'm there with you. I will really think twice about any calls for blood donations in the future.I think the Honorable Doc should get a new script writer or learn to convey his messages & feelings in a more appropriate way.
