Unlock Iphone

Featured Replies

I have a new 16GB 3Gs phone from the USA (ATT) and I want to have it unlocked in Bangkok when I am there in a few weeks. I don't need it jailbroken-just unlocked so I can use on AIS Two questions:

I can get it unlocked without it being jailbroken, right?

Does unlocking it create problems for me if I want to upgrade software releases through itunes? Or does that only come up when it is jailbroken?

Thanks

You need to jailbreak to unlock. Bring it to MBK or do it yourself as it's really easy.

3.0.1 can be JB and unlocked with redsn0w, there are dozens of tutorials on youtube and google.

I also have received my ebay-purchased 3Gs recently, and have failed 3 attempts to jailbreak it with with redsn0w ( I have done it on a 3G before without problems ), each time stuck during the process, the timing is tricky to switch to DFU mode. I can restaure the firmware with itunes but it takes time.

I am trying one final time and will bring it to a shop if I fail again, never mind the few hundreds bahts...

Unlocking your phone with a sotware unlock does create a problem for upgrading software in that each upgrade relocks it. Luckily a new software comes out soon afterwards.

Theoretically software unlocks for the 3GS such as redsnow 0.8. My phone is factory unlocked so I cant vouch for them although I did easily upgrade to 3.0.1 and jailbreak with no problem

It eventually worked at the 4th attempt. The redsn0w I was using the last time had a much simpler way to switch to DFU.

The tweaking is just beginning...
