An Easier Method Of Making Bookmarks With Firefox

Regarding an easier method of making bookmarks with FF (and possibly other browsers), here's what I do:

1. Click and hold the URL's icon

2. Drag it to the "Bookmarks" menu title (which opens the menu)

3. Drop it into the folder of choice.

Simple and efficient.

Works great for many URL's

However I now find sites that I cannot bookmark sucessfully. Is that just me (or my computer). When I put the mouse on the site icon it says "This site does not support identity information"

Does that mean it is 'un-bookmarkable'?

Any sites I tried it with didn't work. It only displayed "This site does not support identity information". It is already pretty easy just to double click the bookmark "star" and select the appropriate folder.

I have one site that shows "This site does not support identity information". It does actually bookmark but with the incorrect URL of the homepage instead. I have been trying to bookmark it for days!!!

:)

Tried it with the Icon, which does o.m.o.o. say same thing (this website does not supply indentity information) of this page, but works just fine, for me only an issue if there are many sub-folders, it turns out to be a bit"fiddly" to get the bookmark where it's supposed to be!

Thanks the OP for the hint...!

Likewise--thanks for the hint--also to the poster who pointed out the 'Bookmarks Star' Icon--Christ, I never noticed this--both methods will save time.

If the site does supply it's own URL icon (i.e. only the generic icon is displayed) then when you move your mouse over it the little text box will display the "This site does not..., etc". But you can still drag the generic icon to the Bookmarks menu and drop it into any folder. I have lots of those. Here's one of them:

But, give me some of your examples. I want to try them.

Yeah, some sites hide the URL path so all you see is the main URL no matter what page you're on. Kinda frustrating if you want to bookmark specific things.

That's odd. "Any" sites? Try again (unless you're using Explorer or some other browser).

Also, IMO, using the old-fashioned, time-consuming, "hunt 'n click, hunt 'n click..." method for saving URLs is no match for "one-click, drag 'n drop"...

Here is one site I cannot bookmark with its own URL. It always bookmarks with another URL probably taken from my bookmark list:

http://www.trustnet.com/Factsheets/Factshe...OISB&univ=B

Myabe it is just my computer causing this?

I'm using this already some years now. Do you know that you can make an extra toolbar with your most favourite bookmarks (you can even make folders on this as well)? In that case you can simply click and hold the URL's icon and drag it to this toolbar. No need to go into the Bookmarks menu etc. Much faster.

That URL bookmarks fine using the drag 'n drop method and reloads fine, too. I think you should go in and delete all references to it and try saving it again.

Disable tooltips to get rid of the annoying 'this site does not supply identification information' note. .......[snip]

I don''t think that's necessary. Tooltips can contain helpful information.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

See that white star that is at the end of the space where you type the url?

Click that to bookmark the site. Click again to add tags or to move it into a bookmark folder.

Works every time.
