This being my second thread here it may seem awkward, but I am sure most of you will understand the point of my topic.

I am originally from the states, and I am currently in Iraq for a job. I will be visiting Phuket at the end of February through the beginning of March. I lived in S. Korea from 2003-2006, and in that time I never could get around to visiting Phuket. I am absolutely certain that I will be able to this time. Here is my reason for posting this... I will be there for a little over 2 weeks(Feb 12-Mar 1), and I obviously will not have a whole lot of time. I do plan on retiring there in the not so distant future(probably around 30-32 which will be in about 3-5 years).

Would it be wrong to try and find a girl online to hang out(dinner/bars/etc) with and show me around(snorkel/get an idea for the local real estate/history/etc) while I am there. FIRST OF ALL I WANT TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A PROSTITUTE. I am looking for a single attractive girl that would like to show someone around hang out. I have 4 other friends coming in the second week of my vacation to hang out as well, a couple of them are bringing their wives so it would also ease that awkwardness if I had someone to take to dinner as well.

I guess my point is I could wait until I get there and meet some girl in a bar/hotel/street/beach/etc and hope that she is a pretty cool chick, or I could try and meet one on here(or a similar forum) and go ahead and get to know them/her.

I guess I am asking does that seem strange? I have had a long day and the idea just popped into my head while laying in bed I hope this makes sense lol

Also, is this a good time to visit? lol I really hope it is that is when myself and friends have planned on coming over.

I would suggest you wait until you get here. I don't know what your motivation is in finding such a girl. There is little likelihood of you finding a non-prostitute willing to accompany you around Phuket. She knows she would quickly become labeled as a prostitute just for being seen regularly with a foreigner.

If you are just looking for a presentable escort that speaks some english, dresses appropriately and takes good care of you, then it is best to stop in Bangkok and visit a large massage, meet the girls, explain what you want and pay for the service.

Yeah oldgeezer summed it up pretty well. I met a wonderful, sweet university girl from Trang when I first came here 8 years ago. After months of courting, she turned me down because if her parents found out she was dating a farang (meaning foriegner, pronounced "Fuh-long") then she would get her school funds cut off, despite the fact she really liked me. I was gutted. I recommend you wait till you get here and check out the scene. And realize that even girls you meet outside the typical prostitute pick-up spots such as go-go's, disco's (lots of freelancers) and such are very likely to have, or be willing to, dabble on the fringes of compensated companionship, including sex. I know you didn't mention this, but for God's sake, don't expect her to remain faithful to you after you leave. Most of these types of girls will have a few guys that vacation here once or twice an year and just want a companion while they are here just like you. Some even have Thai boyfriends that will also enjoy the benefits of your generosity. And most of these guys understand they are not the only one supporting the girls family or education with a Western Union program. And any Thai girl you meet in a bar or on the street in the tourist areas will likely be a prostitute. You meet her in a hotel, she will be staff and not have time to spend with you. Maybe a bar in Phuket Town but those girls won't likely won't give you a second glance. Who knows, maybe you will get lucky. You tell a girl you are retiring here soon, and you aren't bad looking, who knows, you might get lucky.

Is it common for single women in any country to have all of this free time to show a (relative) stranger around? I highly doubt it and you'd be better off reading up on forums and guidebooks for things to do and see and if you happen to meet a non-working girl that had a large amount of free time, then consider yourself extremely lucky.

Also, a note about the girls who frequent those dating sites like hi5 and thailovelinks: My wife has a friend who is married with 4 kids.

Sometimes her Thai husband and her do not get along well.

When that happens, she heads over to her friend's internet shop and gets her to interpret and leads a bunch of foreign men along.

She has a nice profile picture and her friend does all the writing in English as she can't even speak more than 5 words.

Right now, she claims to have 4 of them who want to come and visit her. (one is starting to send her money already)

She has a good thing going in her mind but i know she would never leave her husband and kids and this is just a fun pastime for her.

So, even the ones you find online are not to be trusted.

Sorry if i'm busting anyone's bubble with this story. I'm sure there's some nice, hard working, real treats to be found out there in cyberspace, but.........

Next time "an idea pops into your head" and you decide to start a thread on this forum, why don't you give it a bit more thought and state in the name of the thread what is is all about. You would not be wasting peoples' time trying to find out what you are after

you lost me bell, but you are right i probably should have put more time/thought into it. and i suppose it is not common to find what i was asking about, but it did happen when i first moved to S. Korea in 2003.....only difference was we both knew i was gonna be there for several years without leaving.

i probably should have given it more thought. my main reasoning is that i will be there for 1 week by myself before my other friends arrive. anybody wanna hang out? lol ..... i mean i have no problem going into bars/clubs whatever to hangout, but i do not want to just get caught up in that part of it. i suppose i will just take the overwhelming majority of advice and just see what happens when i get there. thanks everyone

You just described any one of the 1000's of girls who work in the bars.. With the glaring exception that they will expect some payment or gift.

Suggest you come to terms with your own ego and reward them for being your guide and escort or remain single.. Serious minded non P4P girls dont need to be messed around by somone just out for a few weeks companion when theres 1000's there to provide exactly that.
