Questions: Hostels And Other...

Featured Replies

Hey,

Planning a trip to Thailand in 2010, possibly end of Jan with my GF.

Were 23/22 years old and looking to have fun and relax.

Were going to start in Bangkok and head around diff hot spots in Thailand and then eventually hit Cambodia and Vietnam and maybe Laos.

What are some good hostels in Bangkok? Whats a decent price per night for something basic with a fan or maybe even AC. And in the hostels are they 2 rooms or are they like Aus/NZ where its 8 people per room...

Also whats the best way to get around? I hear flights are very cheap... but then taxi/bus is way cheaper of course, just for flying its cheap in thailand.

Some other questions I have are:

- Is it easy getting around?

- Hows the language barrier (Were Canadian)

- Anything I need to see? (Im thinking definately moon festival)

- Anything I should avoid?

Thats all for now I guess...

Thanks in advance.

Hostelling International have a Thai affiliate ( www.tyha.org ) or www.hostelworld.com which will also include non-YHA/HI hostels as well ... there is plenty of hostel-accomodation in Bangkok and Thailand, with a range of room-sizes/prices.

One of the delights of Thailand is the amount of low-cost guest-house/simple-bungalow accomodation also available, this makes it cheaper to travel here, than in many Western countries.

A copy of Lonely-Planet's Thailand Survival-Guide, or their (more-condensed) S.E.Asia Guide, would also help you plan your trip, and get the most out of your limted time & money.
