Visa For Children

Featured Replies

Hello All;

I'm a 45 y/o American, I am married to a Thai women for 9 years and have 2 children that are also Thai. I have a 20 y/o son that is from a previous marriage and wishes to stay with me here in Thailand, I have a work permit and an 'O' Visa but I am not sure what type of visa I can get for him? Do they have Student Visa's if he attends school here? I would like to understand my options for him so that we can avoid multiple visa runs.

Thank you

Cshort

If he was less than 20 he could get an extension based upon yours.

If he was to enroll in a school registered at the Ministry of Education he could get an extension of stay to attend school.

See 2.8 and 2.9 of this police order for more info. Police_Order_2551_777.pdf

Otherwise he could get a multiple entry non immigrant O visa to visit you. It would mean border runs every 90 days with this visa.

If you want to avoid visa runs every 90 days than the only real option is an educational visa. it would require him to study for 4 hours a week on avarage.

The cost would depend on what he wil study. If he studies Thai language at a Thai language school it would be about 29,000 for th course and 1,900 for an extension of stay from immigration every 90 days.

Ubonjoe and Mario2008 gave you good answers.

Your son is probably American.

Maybe he could teach English? The school SHOULD provide him a work permit and visa.

That is another option. Instead of paying to study... he will get PAID to teach!

It's also a good way to integrate Thailand...

He could easily do 90 days border runs with a 1 year multiple entry given in USA. (like Mario said).

Every 90 days have to go out and re-enter. Good for one year.

Good Morning All

Thank you for your quick response, these answers are most helpful. My son is an American and the O visa is a good option, but also the teaching and school, I will look into them. He was in university in Singapore but wishes to transfer here, so once we find the right place then I will look at the educational visa.

Again, thank you.

He can enter on a non-o visa and get an extension of stay for school. He does not have to start out with an ED visa.
