I obtained my notarized letter from the US embassy in Aug 2000....showing my annual income. I am up for annual visa renewal each Oct. Does anyone know if the notarized letter is still required? And if so, is it only good for 5 years?

For a long stay retirement type extension a letter confirming pension is required; at least if you do not meet the 800k in the bank alternative requirement. As to how long you can use the same letter different people have had different experiences. I would go with what I have but give myself time to get a new letter if required.

It is my understanding that the letter is only good for the year it is issued. My visa comes up for renewal in July and I plan on getting a new 'certified income' letter from the Embassy end of May '05. Better safe then sorry.

Lopburi,

The OP did not mention pension, he said income.

My guess is :

Income should need a new letter each year as the amount can vary.

A pension letter can be used every year if your address is the same.

Sorry about that, Thetyim, I was referring to my "pension" letter (not income). With few exceptions, most everyone in Udorn has been able to use theirs for the past 4 years....but I'm wondering if the letters "expire" after 5.

Thanks for your interest and assistance.

Are you saying that you can't use your pension as income when applying for a visa stay based on being married to a Thai lady?

What is the difference between ''a pension letter'' and an income letter?I have a affidavid feom the embassy stating my income.Does that have to be renewed each year and is it good for that entire year if it is 5 or 6 months from the visa extention date(affidavid dated March 16,2005,visa expires Aug.24 ,2005)?
