Grandma Cares Looking For Advisory Board Members

Grandma Cares is a non profit organization based in Chiang Mai with the purpose of supporting children of HIV positive parents who are left to the care of their grandmothers. Since its founding in 2002, it has served more than 200 children financial and moral support with it's Adopt a Child program. As the program has evolved, it has expanded its operations in cooperation with other NGOs to rehabilitate rural schools, offer life skills workshops, support women's cooperatives, and rehabilitate houses to prevent infant mortality. It costs $50 USD per month to support one child economicaly by providing school materials, food and living expenses and in some cases economic help with work projects. Children participate in life skills workshops twice a year to prevent future spread of the HIV virus, and are monitored regularly. Adoptive parents are provided with the background and photo of the child and are welcome to participate in activities with the child is possible.

I think the problem with this is:

1. It is self-promotion.

2. Despite the good that this group does, it is not a legal entity in Thailand.

I think that there was a similar discussion in the past about the Care for Dogs group (before they become a legal foundation).

In May 2008 Grandma Cares became an independent and recognized Thai Foundation

As they are a foundation I assume they are a legal entity.

Thanks for the clarification Nienke. I wasn't aware of the change. In any case, as someone not affiliated with their group, I think that Khun Hope (one of the leaders) does great work and is very dedicated to helping rural women and orphans.
