Where Is The Romantic Place In Australia?

Hi all,

Its my first time to there...

could any one suggest me some romantic places ?????

I can give you heaps, but can you narrow it down a bit for me? Do you have an actual city or State destination in mind? Do you like country, mountains, or ocean? And your daily/nightly expenditure range. I ask this because there are some very expensive, but very romantic places. Australia is not an inexpensive holiday destination.

I don't think you can get much more romantic than Pattaya, cupids everywhere. As this is a Thai forum thought I should keep it focused that way.

Soloman,

Now that you offer your knowledge, then I would like to hear what is in the Brisbane area. I plan to fly to Brisbane, rent a car and drive north.

Hamilton Island is very nice and romantic. If you are loaded with $$ Turtle Island is suppose to be exceptional.

Agreed, if you are in the Queensland area can't beat the Whitsundays / Arlie beach. Should be able to get a good package. Really depend what you are after. If you are after clubs etc go to the Gold Coast but it is very commercialized. Just another point if you are traveling around Xmas and are up north there is always a chance of bad weather.

Also depends on how much time you have. Pays to have a look at a map. Australia is really a big place. Eg, if you drive from Brisbane to Cairns it will take you 2 full days unless you want to drive straight through without a break (craziness).

Have a nice trip.

Welcome Alex, :)

You know!! Australia is full of Romantic places.. You may like to Sunrise Beach on the Sunshine Coast when it's deserted. Although popular with surfers first thing in the mornings, this beautiful sandy beach is vast enough for there to be plenty of room for everyone and still feel as though you have to yourselves.

Gold coast – Surfers Paradise, yes it has been over developed but if you have never been before, well worth a visit. Just think small Miami USA. They have beautiful beaches and several theme parks to fill in time. Many dining opportunities overlooking ocean, river, marinas. Wide range of Accommodation to fit any budget. Most romantic but expensive Sheraton Mirage Resort and Spa Gold Coast. Casino nearby at Broadbeach.

Then go north to Sunshine Coast.

Most romantic but expensive Novotel Twin Waters Resort. Ocean Drive, Twin Waters

Sunshine Coast, QLD 4564 (7 kilometres from Noosa).

Noosa They have beautiful beaches many great restaurants and affordable accommodation, ranging from holiday units to resorts. I stayed at The French Quarter Resort not expensive and quite nice.

I would not drive any further north. Too far for too little benefit.

Fly Brisbane to Cairns and get transfer to Port Douglas. To me Cairns is nothing special. Port Douglas has affordable accommodation, ranging from holiday units to resorts. Most romantic but expensive Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas Resort.

Many boat trips to the islands and snorkling/scuba diving on the reef from Cairns or Port Douglas. There is accommodation on some of the lslands off the Queensland coast, some with transfers from Cairns or Port Douglas. http://tools.cairns.com.au/cairns-attracti...attractions.php

Eg “ Two of the most exclusive places to visit are Lizard Island, a resort off the coast of Cooktown that is popular with the rich-and-famous and Bedarra Island, an eco-resort south of Cairns with its limited number of guests, no children policy and VIP visitors”.

Byron Bay (approx 4 hrs south of Brisbane) and Noosa (6 or 7 ?? hrs north) are both worth a visit.

Be careful about renting a car on the east coast. Some companies charge heavy penalties unless you return the car to the original pick-up point.

Beaches tend to have lockers available --- and for very good reason --- paper money is waterproof, so you can bring it swimming. Check with locals about shark nets --- there are many areas where where swimming is not advisable.

Enjoy your trip and let us know later.

Thanks guys, really good info so far. I already got my visa online, so now the Thai gf just has to get hers at the Embassy.

I don't plan to spend much time in Brisbane, maybe just a day or 2, then slowly drive 1,000 along the coast north, turn around and go more inland and see the country side on the return trip. Any good wineries north of Brisbane?

AU-$40 seem to be the going rate for a Nissan Tiida and no problem, I will return the car where I pick it up.

Keep the info coming, please.

Brisbane to Noose 100 Mile (160km) - maybe 2 hours drive. The best Aust wines grown in cool climates - Queensland not suitable although you may find one or 2 set up for tourists and cellar door sales.

Noosa national park is on the list to visit. What is worth seeing in-land? Anything in Roma?

If you are going inland, please check with the hotel/guest house about the route you propose to take, each morning. Your mobile phone is unlikely to have a signal, and help may be very slow to arrive, if you have a problem with the car or need medical help. The tour companies usually carry a sat phone for use in emergencies. Your beautiful Thai friend may also attract unwanted attention, and there may not be a policeman within a 100k.

Going in land? Romantic?? If you notice no-one has recommended inland destinations. The Best of Queensland is beaches coastal resorts, islands etc. Unless way up north I do not recommend inland as it is barren.

Well, at my age it is hard to be romantic 24/7, so a bit of wild unspoiled country side might be a welcoming break. Roma is probably a bit to far in-land, but I will like to at least drive 100-150 km away from the coast.

Soloman are you in Bangkok, up for a beer?

Does your Thai g/f have her visa approved yet?

I think, if not, you will be in "Dreamtime".

Been there and been disappointed.

OZ visa is a tuff one to get....... NZ tuffa for Thais.

Hope you are luckier than my gal was.

Inland - Armidale, but I have no clue about driving time

its a nice place though....if you are into the bush walking, trekking, etc

nice country town

and I dont think your thai GF should attract any 'unwanted' attraction as was suggested? but yes take note of the practical advise on driving inland distances, stocking up on supplies, gas, water etc (water for drinking AND for the car!)

Yeah Armidale is a fair hike, but for wineries keep Mount Tambourine in mind (an hour from Brisbane - in the Gold Coast hinterland), some great B&B's up that way. Stop at St Bernards Pub for a counter meal too... great views.

Mount Tamborine really look great and is on my list now. Gf applied for the visa a few days ago and we should have an answer next week. Cost: 3,400 baht.

Black Mountain (Cooroy town area) Sunshine coast is supposed to be nice for lunch, and if I remember correctly it is a lush green arrea on a mountain ridge with distant views of ocean. Good for a short day trip if staying Noosa area. (note there are a couple of Black Mountains in Queensland)

Wow no one mentions beautiful bribie Island 40 minutes drive from brisbane, plenty of vine yards north west of brissie, maclagen , toowoomba ,oakey, to name a few wine areas, , for romantic evenings the Bunya Mountains national park chalets take some beating, then cut across country to connect up with the coastal highway at gladstone , or you can always try Southbank beach in brisbane :)

Yikes, Airlie Beach would be on the bottom of my list for romantic places in Oz. It is totally overpopulated with backpackers these days, and the man made lagoon behind the beach is not called the 'shag-oon' for nothing. Well, I guess that may fit the definition of romantic to some.

Anyway my choices would be:

Barossa Valley, S.A.

Yarra Valley VIC

Margaret River W.A.

Nice places to find romantic b&b's and boutique vineyards.

There are a zillion places to vist. Hit the web sites. Probably best to rent a small car as once you get out of metrop areas transport can be a problem. If you want to save money all up and down the east coast there are up market caravan parks with cabins that are comfortable with the sea just a few metres away and that romantic .Many people make the mistake of not allowing enough time. Most of us have not seen nearly enough of our own country, its just too big.

If you're going to Mt Tambourine spend a day or two at O'Reilly's, a bit further on. Great walks, great food and it's cold at night, so good to snuggle up. And your gf will love all the little furry creatures that come out at night (and are easy to see). :)
