Spouse Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This may have been asked before, and I apologise if it has.

My Father (UK) is married to a Thai National and has been for 6 1/2 years. They have built their own home in Thailand and now want to move out there on a more permanent basis just returning to the UK for holidays. My Father is 70 and they would have sufficient money coming in regularly from pensions etc for them to live on. He is also very healthy and active.

Previously he has got a years multi entry visa to spend time out in Thailand and still come back to the UK for a bit but this meant he had to leave the country every 3 months and cross one of the borders. His visa expires on 5th October and he is not sure which way to go with a new visa. His Wife is in the Uk at the moment and they both would like to move over to Thailand in the next few weeks.

What is the best way forward with visa's should they just go for a 3 month visa while they try to sort a spouse visa? Does it matter what his Airline ticket states as he would like to buy an open ticket or a year ticket so he can visit us sometime next year for a cheaper cost than two singles and he is worried that a one way ticket would mean immigration at the Thai end would not let him in? Also how easy is it to get a spouse visa as I can not find much information about them online??

Thank you

Caracroft :)

There isn't actually a "Spouse Visa". He should apply for a one year "Extension of Stay" based on marriage or retirement. The marriage extension would require an income of 40,000 Baht per month, the retirement extension would require an income of 65,000 Baht per month, or 800,000 Baht in a savings account. These extensions do not require travel outside of Thailand every 90 days, but one is required to report to their local immigration office every 90 days.

If he has a visa, he would not be required to show a return air ticket. If he does not have a visa, the airline may require a proof of onward travel.

More details on how to apply can be found within this forum section.

The 12 month extension based on Marriage requires 400,000 Baht in a Thai Bank for a period of 2 months before applying OR 40,000 Baht monthly income.

Based on retirement it is 800 ,000 in the bank OR 65,000 monthly income . OR a combination of the two.

Get a single entry Non Imm Visa before arriving.

He will have no problems with the airline or immigration with a Visa.

Thank you beech guy and Lite Beer. The more information I get the better, to help him.

So immigration would definitely not worry about the date of return on any air ticket is that right?

Cara

Correct. As long as he has a Visa.

Thank you very much

If applying for an extension based on marriage, the 40K a month income,

or 400K in the Thai bank must be in his sole name.
