Hello everyone,

Just had my fiance's visa granted, thought Id let others going through the same process know how easy it was...

Applied in Bangkok on 22/7/09, interview on 18/8/09 and granted on 16/9/09. GF going to Bangkok this morning to pickup Visa in Passport.

Was a straight forward application, GF had already been to Australia twice on 3 month visa's, staying the total 6months. Lived with her for 2months all up in Thailand. Known her since October last year. She now has 9 months in the OZ with me where we will apply for the spouse visa onshore. My only concern was whether or not they would ask for an Assurance of Support... I earnt 14,000 in 2006-2007 and I earnt 20,000 in 2007-2008. I supplied both Tax assesment notices and six months of bank statements showing no savings but money going in and out again. Bank account was zero. They never mentioned the AoS...

I am now in Thailand awaiting my GF to arrive at my door with visa and we fly back to OZ on Monday.

Quick question for someone in the know...

If we go to thailand for holiday during the 9 month visa than return to Australia to apply for Spouse visa, do we have to get another Police Check from Bangkok? And also, will we need another Medical done?

Cheers,

Troy.

No and No.

Bridge,

I was under the impression that if you go back

to Thailand for over a 12 week period you're

required to submit another police check.

I may be wrong though.

Hi Will,

From what you have posted, I thought I would just confirm with the Embassy in BKK. From the horses mouth they have said that the Thai police clearance is valid for 12 months, so no need to apply for a new one, even if returning to Thailand for a visit.

Thanks for the clarification mate.

The Police clearance does have a 12 month validity...they applied for the fiance visa on the 22/7/09......dont know the date of the police clearance but assume it was before the application date.

The grant was 16/9/09.........that means that the visa is valid until 16/6/10 the police clearance will expire probably in mid July 2010......If for some reason the Police clearance expires prior to the processing of the Temp Res visa or a bridging visa is required, then a new police clearance may be required.

Chances are that an Australian Federal Police clearance will also be required for that stage of the process.

I hope you kept copies of all the paperwork, because its exactly the same forms for the spouse visa except for a tick at the top on the first page and a minor date change here and there.

I had my originals completed and saved using Adobe Writer and the downloaded PDF's. When it came time to submit the spouse visa it took less than 5mins to change and print my wifes forms and my own.

Good Luck

Firstly congratulations acron45, on a speedy result back in 2001 it took us 11months to get the fiancee visa granted, took that long that my wife(now) came out on a tourist visa for a holiday while we waited.

I'm just a little confused as you and another poster both refer to a "spouse visa". My understanding and it is mentioned by a previous responder that the next step , after the wedding is a "temporay resident visa" for your spouse, he also mentions the critical bit and that is that you have 9 months to get married from ther date of issue of the fiancee visa. Once you're married, you then apply for the temporary residency and then 2 years later for permanent residency and then (in our case) an extension of the permanent residency. The next 2 steps will require just as much paperwork as the one you have just finished.

From my experience when applying for the temporay residency the immigration department here in Australia mainly wanted us to prove we were in a genuine relationship and that we lived at the same address. I/we made the mistake of not keeping letters with post stamps addressed to both of us at the same address during the 8 months we took to get married.

The person who responded and suggested you keep everything you can was spot on the money. The only step in the whole process that didn't involve and onerous amount of documentation was the last bit i.e. extending the permanent residency.

Good luck for the future and hope it goes as well as it has up until now.
