Hi,

I am hoping for some suggestion as what to do. This is the situation:

Ordered ADSL in my apartment around 7 weeks ! ago. Was delivered in about a week, by the apartment building management. Including a billion router.

Now since I just arrived one week ago, I only then had the chance to properly install the router (using a working configuration from someone in the same apartment building. However I don't get an ADSL Signal. So all bets are off.

Now the support I am getting from the apartment management is next to zero. They say they have patched it correctly from their side, but no ADSL signal. Now obviously I tried three different routers, I tried two different ADSL splitters and a buch of cables. So it is fairly safe to say, the problem is somewhere before my wall socket.

Does any of you have any suggestions, as I am guessing the management isn't able to help me properly.

Did you enter the correct user data in the modem? The user name + password you got from your ISP? In addition to this do you have the correct settings for your connection in respect of ATM VC - depends on your provider?

adsl signal led is not dependant of modem settings.

simply call the provider call center and ask them to come and check, the appartment owner can do nothing for you.

Ok, I will try to find out who is the provider, as the adsl charge is added to the apartment bill, so I have no idea who is the provider. I asssumed that since this is a pbx connected line, the apartment management would be responsible.

For ADSL it will be a direct line.

Not necessarily.

There are apartments installing a DSLAM as a way to distribute internet throughout the building. Cheaper then putting in wifi or network cabling.

I wish it was, but it isn't. As posted above, other people in my apartment building have it running over their PBX connected phone line.

Am I right in assuming that since they might be using an DSL AM, that the responsiblity of hooking me up still lies with the apartment management ?

Not necessarily. Depends if they do it themselves, or subcontracted it to an ISP.

For example, CAT in Pattaya has several DSLAMS installed in condo's hooked up directly to the existing phone lines.

Problem solved, it was as I suspected just internal cabling :)

I just came back from a 10 days trip to Lao PDR, and asked them again (the apartment management), the tech guy opened up the patch closest, disconnected a wire and re-connected it again, and huray adsl carrier detect led was illuminated and internet working :D
