Any Ideas Where To Buy Children's Dvds?

Featured Replies

Hi all, a British friend of mine lent me a DVD called 'In the Night Garden' and my son loved it! I'd like to buy more and wondered where people buy their children's DVDs when living in Bangkok?

In the Night Garden is British BBC, I'd appreciate it if anyone knew any stores that have such DVDs? Any good online stores that ship to Thailand? If not, I was going to try amazon.co.uk - has anyone had experience with that? are there any customs/import charges?

any advice appreciated!

Can't help with the DVD, but the BBC have a great web page for it - with games: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/inthenightgarden/

I have bought DVDs several times for my kids while in Bangkok. We live in the US and visit Thailand during the summer every other year. I buy DVDs that can be played here as well as back in the US and the best place that I found to do this was at the Siam Paragon. While there this summer, I found two different shops there that had a good selection of movies for kids. I mostly try to find DVDs with both English and Thai because I am encouraging my kids to be bilingual. I did, however, buy some DVDs without any English - two were Thai movies and the others were Japanese movies.

Oh yeah, my son caught some of In the Night Garden when we were in England and he was mesmerized!! I haven't seen it here, and for sthg like that, I would go through amazon.co.uk. The postal charges to Thailand aren't bad for DVDs (but pricey for books). Usually, deliveries have been fine. Just two or three times, I have had to collect the items at the post office and pay additional custom duties - when I ordered a lot in one go.

One "magical" solution is to download "Ares" software, and install it. The software is about 2Mb. From there you can downloard files over the internet. They are about 307 Mb per episode so take a while to download - a few hours if you have wifi. If you download the ones in ".avi" format you can burn these onto your own DVDs and play. Have done a few this way. You can also download movies, TV series etc via Ares and it's all free and easy to use.

PM me with your email address if you want me to email you the Ares software

Thanks for the advice, could you post the link to the Ares software? I googled it, but there are numerous sites and multiple versions of the software - one attempt to download caused my computer to close Explorer???? Could you recommend a safe and trusted source?

thanks

Have you tried ebay? There is a good selection on ebay.co.uk at what look to me decent prices.

Just search the programme title in the dvd section. Some sellers will ship to Thailand, but not everybody will so it may help if you have an alternative address you could ship to and then have somebody to send on to you.

If you don't buy from there, you will at least see the titles available and be able to search for them elsewhere.

Now you come to mention it I remember when I re-installed after buying a new PC I found multiple versions - some weren't originals either and some were trying to charge. The icon for the software I have is a blue circle with yellow A thru it - I remember one with a green icon being a copy and causing problems. TBH I can't remember the site I downloaded from originally, but if you PM me with your email address I'll email you the installation file of the one I'm using.
